Emmanuel Adebayor, the saga continues.

I have discussed Adebayor on many occasions, even prior to the will he won’t he discussions relating to him leaving the club. Here is a man who scored 30 goals last season and was criticised for missing too many chances (despite his conversion rate being marginally below Torres). He also was accused of having a poor first touch and being clumsy on the ball in the box – so surely incapable of scoring the goal of the season against spurs then.

I have to say sometimes the blinkered attitude you get from gooners must make it impossible for the players, however much Adebayor achieved for the club last season he will still be remembered for the dry patch when he’d cut his hair. Is it any wonder the guy nearly left bearing in mind the lack of support he has received despite outperforming most of the other strikers in the premiership on half the pay?

This brings me onto Adebayor’s “courting” of other clubs over the summer, something he has, unsurprisingly, being given grief over.

To me you have to look at Adebayor’s toing and froing as much as speculation from the press as anything, there is no evidence he initiated any of the interest in him from Inter or from Barca and, when someone shite like Lampard is on 4 times the money he is earning I can understand him feeling a little undervalued, he did score 30 goals last season after all.

At the end of the day he stayed because he wanted to despite the fact that many would argue he was priced out of the market, valuing a player at 30M and paying him 35k per week is excellent economics in anyone’s book, apart from maybe Adebayor’s.

People seem to forget that most of these players are in their early twenties and that we are talking about decisions that can mean millions… would you be level headed and put loyalty before money at that age (particularly bearing in mind you know your earnings will drop considerably the older you get…)

I understand the slight reticence and accusations of forced melodrama from the badge-kissing after his goal against Real but not only was it an exceptional penalty, his desire to take it in the first place shows a little of his commitment to the club and to “prove the doubters wrong”. What would be being said had he missed it. You could also argue he is only now committed having got his payrise but the equal argument is that he deserved a payrise and that there are considerably worse footballers on considerably more money whilst delivering considerably less than Ade gives on a weekly basis.

That said this argument does have its flaws, shouldn’t Arsenal players be there for the beauty of the game we play and the undying support to those who serve us well… the answer is yes however as the business end of football takes over the passion (chelsea FC please stand up) this situation is only going to get worse. The other question is, aren’t the players paid this kind of money for exactly the reasons quoted above so therefore this dutch auction entering purely makes them cheap…. the answer is simple, the more clubs like Chavski pay over the odds for over the hill players with big reputations, the clearer it becomes,

In football everyone has a price….
