Nasri the busy string puller / Man Utd squad depth myth

Nasri certainly has a mixture of Pires, Hleb and Rosicky. I hope he can use all the positives from each of those players and turn into a fabulous Arsenal player

Hello Gooners,

Interesting first week of Premier League football. The myth that Arsenal have an extremely weak squad and Manchester United have endless talent in reserve was there for everyone to see this weekend.

Arsenal started well, played a quick tempo that I was hoping for and looked like clicking into gear from the first whistle. Not many would have thought the game would end 1-0 after Nasri scored after only 4 minutes.

Sami Nasri played an impressive debut, and was the type of player we were hoping for during the FC Twente match, of course this does not matter now but at the time we lacked that player who could get on the ball and link things together.

Nasri certainly has a mixture of Pires, Hleb and Rosicky. I hope he can use all the positives from each of those players and turn into a fabulous Arsenal player.

What I like about Nasri is the way he makes a pass and follows the direction of the ball. Always running into holes in between the opposition and his teammates. He is the player who is always available to receive the pass. One time in the first half he played the ball from the left and followed it all the way to the right where he got back on the ball again.

Nasri is a string puller, so it will be interesting to see what he does when the master string puller is back in the side and back to his best.

Nasri was pleased with his performance and he feels ready for the Premier League already.

“I could not dream of a better start, to score in my first game after four minutes,” beamed Nasri.

“Now I will have to continue week in and week out, and hopefully I can keep playing like that, it will be brilliant.

“There were not that many problems for me to adapt to playing in England.

“When I first met the boss, he said that maybe I would need a bit of time, maybe up to six months – but actually I felt really good straight away.”

His past goalscoring record is far from impressive, infact it is very much like his predecessor but the way he finds his way into the box and his eagerness to have a go shows that he could well end up a frequent name on the Arsenal scoring charts.

I was also pleasantly surprised by Nasri’s pace, he is quicker than I thought he was. Quicker than Hleb, Cesc and Rosicky.

Denilson was good again, this time playing in the Cesc Fabregas mould instead of the holding position. The young Brazilian has a very good passing range and has a good knack of finding diagonal runners as he did on a few occasions with Adebayor.

His midfield partner had an impressive game breaking up the opposition play and starting attacks. Emmanuel Eboue is probably the least popular player amongst the fans but probably one of the favourites around the dressing room.

Eboue is certainly not short of talent, he never has been. Technically very good. His football ability is usually criticised in the final third of the pitch where his decision making can be quite poor and his shooting and finishing is pretty dismal.

Sitting in front of the back four we do not get to see these weak points as much in that area. Although he did let fly on a few occasions and they all went horribly wrong.

I have only seen him twice in that position, one was for 45 minutes in a friendly and one was against West Brom but I would say that is his best position. It is the one that suits him best.

I would be happy to have Eboue as defensive midfield cover as well as the purchase that he is likely to make.

Theo Walcott is the talking point with many Arsenal supporters. His second below average performance in two games means that he is now overrated and useless. This is unfortunately what football has now become. It is obvious to all that Theo needs to improve his form but we should all know by now what he is capable of. He needs a good start to a game or a goal because confidence is one thing that Walcott thrives on. I hope that we score against Fulham in the first 15 minutes and Theo is the man to break the deadlock.

I think Theo will be a more productive player away from home, where he can use his pace to get behind defenders and hurt teams on the counter attack.

Having said this, I would love to see the trio of Nasri, Rosicky and Cesc in midfield. Full of invention, energy, work rate and flair. Alongside a good holding midfielder that team would boss most. But it would lack the penetration that Walcott provides.

Back to the match on Saturday. We bossed the game but had two strikers long way from full sharpness. Any of those on form would have scored at least a brace. Adebayor missed a hatful and ended up trying too hard to score.

So what of Manchester United. Injuries have meant that they are playing with Fraizer Campbell alongside Rooney. What is the saying that I keep hearing? You can tell the strength of a team by their bench.

Subs: Kuszczak,Neville,Evans,Gibson,Rafael Da Silva,Possebon,O’Shea

Compare that to Arsenal’s bench.

Subs: Fabianski,Vela,Ramsey,Wilshere,Randall,Toure, Van Persie

Do you think Manchester United would have won the league last season with their versions of Rosicky, Eduardo, Sagna and Van Persie missing at the time they were out for?

As for the Adebayor booing, I have already spoken about it being counter productive and that is where I stand. It doesn’t help ANYONE involved in Arsenal, apart from those who do it for the cheap thrill. Because at the end of the day, that is what it is.

A brace against Fulham will put a temporary end to it though.

Have a good day. Drop your view in the comments.

Until tomorrow.
