Silvestre would open doors for our squad / Arshavin could have been

Silvestre has been outspoken in the past, like many French players of the past so it would be interesting to see what type of relationship he would form with fellow Frenchman William Gallas

Interesting goings on today.

I was up at the early hours of the morning and I flicked on the net as you do, just checking the latest news and the latest article on Newsnow was from The Sun. So as you do with the sun, you dismiss it as nonsense. Moments later the Guardian ran the story and I decided to give it a read and suddenly it sounded realistic and very plausible.

The ever so reliable Myles Palmer says that he has had a call stating that he is putting pen to paper as we speak. (and yes, that was tounge in cheek)

As cover for Clichy and center half he is flexible enough to add options to our squad. At 31 years old he would add experience and old enough not to block players like Djourou, Song and Senderos a long term route to the first team.

Goodplaya makes an interesting suggestion which many of us as Arsenal supporters have spoken about, and that is moving Toure into midfield. It seems to be a split idea amongst Gooners. Some say that he is not technically good enough to play midfield football. I would actually say that I think he is a more talented player than Flamini. His pace and power would be a massive bonus to the team. The one thing I would query is his stamina. Can he run back and forward for 90 minutes, sometimes twice a week?

Our squad would be boosted with the arrival of Silvestre as he covers 2 himself, Toure can play holding, right or center back while Eboue now has 3 positions.

Another interesting story was the admission of Arshavin’s agent claiming that he his client could have been playing for Arsenal if his wage demands were not so high.

“Wenger was serious about buying Arshavin,” said Lachter in the Daily Express.

“Arsenal were prepared to pay about £15million for him.

“(Arsene) Wenger is indeed a cunning fox who always says one thing and does the other. He wanted Andrei, but Arsenal are the only top English club who do not pay large salaries.”

That does not surprise me one bit. I have said that Arshavin is a typical Arsene Wenger player. An attacking central player who can play in wide areas and likes to provide assists. His wages was always an issue, he would have had to put money second to football but that just doesn’t happen these days.

If he makes the switch to Tottenham then he will wish he lowered his demands especially with a midfield partnership of Jenas and Modric behind him.

We could well expect signings to be done soon as the International break has given Wenger a few days to work some magic before the Fulham game. Lets see who finds their way to the Emirates.

Have a good day. Drop your view in the comments.

Until tomorrow.
