Would Appiah make you happier? / Time to change football

I don’t think he will score as many goals as Pires did, but at 21 years old if he stays for a long time then he has a good chance to be as good as Pires

So the transfer window has slammed shut and it looks like a case of make do with what we have, which of course is pretty good as it is. We are probably lacking one more defensive minded midfielder. Stephen Appiah, the Ghanaian international has been tracked by Arsene Wenger for some time now but never quite managed to find his way to North London. In 2006 Appiah apparently suggested that he turned down moves to Arsenal and Barcelona (Why do we see our names with that club so often)

Before he decided to stay he said.

July 2007 – Appiah said:

“No deal has been done yet but 50 per cent of me is coming to Arsenal.

“Clubs like AS Roma, Juventus and Marseille all want me. But I don’t want to go to Italy again.

“I prefer Arsenal — they are my No 1 choice.

Currently he is without a club so he is not restricted by the transfer window. He left his previous club Fenerbache after an alleged disagreement about his fitness. West Ham are currently in talks with the player and are working hard to bring him to East London.

Apparently Arsenal are also interested in bringing him to London. One Arsenal Vision reader claims that Appiah is being looked at by a medical expert as he has had long term injuries. As he will not have a transfer fee I would take the gamble on him. I am sure Arsenal and West Ham are not the only clubs interested in this opportunity though.

It is all speculation right now though so lets see where he ends up.

I have been listening to what this new Manchester City owner has been saying and to be honest it is turning the sport into a joke. Roman Abramovich was bad enough, infact he almost single handedly inflated transfer prices and wages.

New owner Al-Fahim has publicly said that he will make a £135 million bid for Ronaldo and that he wants Fabregas and Torres. How will any other clubs (apart from perhaps Chelsea) be able to turn down their advances? What club could say no to £135 million? Could Arsenal reject an £85 million bid for Cesc? Would Cesc reject £200,000 a week?

Something has to be done about this. This is not what football is about and unless something changes then clubs will only be able to survive with Billionaires fighting eachother with stupid money flying around.

New boy Sami Nasri would like to emulate Robert Pires’ success at Arsenal and France.

“They were expecting a successor to Robert Pires. It’s flattering but hard to live up to,” he said. “I would like to have the career he had at Arsenal.”

I don’t think he will score as many goals as Pires did, but at 21 years old if he stays for a long time then he has a good chance to be as good as Pires. Nasri is better at running past players and is probably has better technique but Pires was very intelligent and almost always made the right decisions.

I was a big Hleb fan and still appreciate what he can do but we can see what we have been missing when you see Nasri ghost past a defender, play a pass and continue his run into the box.

Have a good day. Drop your view in the comments.

Until tomorrow.
