Arsene’s seeds sprouting nicely

Slowly but surely we are starting to understand what Arsene Wenger has had in mind for some years when he decided to build the new training ground and start making players instead of competing with the likes of Chelsea in the open market

Back again after a couple of days away from Visioning. Squid boy has written a very good article so click this link to read.

Denilson, Eboue and Song appear to be the latest seeds that have started to sprout rather nicely. Some seeds like Cesc, Clichy and Van Persie (although he appears to shed leaves rather easily) have shot up quickly and effortlessly. Others take longer, need more sun and rain but eventually they make it.

Slowly but surely we are starting to understand what Arsene Wenger has had in mind for some years when he decided to build the new training ground and start making players instead of competing with the likes of Chelsea in the open market.

Denilson ran the show at Ewood park. he has had his doubters this season and has slowly been playing himself into form. He has had a harder pre season than any other Arsenal player so far featuring in the most amount of matches.

Losing Flamini was an obvious blow, his style was different to Gilberto’s and it gave us that something extra, Denilson is also different to Flamini who once again gives that something different to the side.

That is the great thing about Arsene Wenger, he is not restricted by templates and models unlike Jose Mourinho. Wenger designs winning teams around the strengths that he has at his disposal

Denilson has added creativity and assists to an already creative team. I have not checked the stats but I am pretty sure that Denilson has had a hand in more goals than any other Arsenal player so far this season. West Brom at home he bursts down the left and cut it back to Nasri to score, just as he did for Adebayor in pre season against Ajax. FC Twente at home saw his back heel set up Bendtner to tap in, Newcastle at home he slide the ball past Given for his first Premier League goal.

Against Blackburn Denilson took on the responsibility instead of leaving the ball for Eboue he sent over an inch perfect cross for Adebayor to score his first goal of the 2008/2009 season.

Wenger appears to have dropped the idea of having one sitting midfielder, it looks like he wants his midifield to attack and defend as a unit. We cannot concede goals when we are in possession, and the introduction of Denilson should in theory mean that we will keep the ball even more than we already do.

Abou Diaby may have to wait once again to come into the side just as he did when he picked up an injury at the start of last season which allowed Flamini to get his chance.

There haven’t been many players who have received as much stick as Emmanuel Eboue from Arsenal supporters but this season so far he has kept many of them quiet. I have never doubted Eboue’s ability, Infact I wrote a rather excitable piece on him after the Emirates cup game against Inter Milan last pre season.

Eboue has been consistent so far and his drives forward have added another dimension to our team. I was pleasantly surprised to see him adapt to playing on the left to take care of Emerton.

Alex Song came on and looked very composed, passed well and dealt with everything like an experienced pro. I never thought that he would make it in an Arsenal shirt but I am very happy to be proved wrong.

Having said this I do not think Song is dynamic enough for Wenger. Could Song do the box to box job that Flamini and now Denilson do?

As Wenger did said, Walcott looks to have a spring in his step. The way he danced past 3 or 4 defenders and thread a perfect pass into Van Persie was very Thierry Henry. When Walcott is good, he is very good. If Walcott can continue to rise this season then we are looking at a match winner on our books.

It will be interesting to see which players make it and do not make it on Wednesday in Kiev. The doubts are Nasri, Clichy and Eboue. Wenger will also be looking to rotate players as well so it is almost impossible to predict which kind of team will feature. I would imagine that the likes of Djourou, Song and Bendtner will have a chance to start.

Have a good day. Drop your view in the comments.

Until tomorrow.
