We may have problems at the back, in midfield and upfront, they may take 2 years off your life with every match but it’s after matches like these that I’m proud to be an Arsenal fan.

The 2nd half highlights first. The lads came out of the blocks determined to turn this around and save the season and they immediately did. From a corner, Nasri gets the ball from the top of the box and drives one home to give us a deserved 1-1 draw. Walcott’s entrance gave us a boost as he made a number of runs down the flank in the initial minutes of the half. In the 54th minute, van Persie wasted a great opportunity from close range by blasting it high with his right foot. Minutes later, the Dutchman is pulled down in the penalty area for what appears to be a penalty kick, but the referee waves play on.

This was the stage when we got complete control of the match and kept it until the end. The domination paid off in the 70th minute; Fabregas gets the ball inside the box, passes to Adebayor who returns the favour, Cesc’s shot is blocked but breaks to van Persie, who makes no mistake from close range with a header. In the final minutes of the match, Walcott made sure of the win with a shot from a tight angle that goes through the keeper’s legs.

Thumbs up, for today’s man of the match!

The only bad news of the match came in the dying seconds of the half when Nasri fell down and had to be replaced by Diaby. Let’s hope he’s OK because he’s been the best one out there today.

All in all, this could have so much turned out like Hull or Sunderland, but Everton were always shaky at the back and allowed us to get away with a number of wasted chances. It was nice to see Silvestre make his debut as it means we have some backup back there. Toure left the match prematurely so we may need him very very much. Nasri also left the pitch with an injury and I’ll be keeping a very close eye on this as he was simply magic out there.

Despite scoring, van Persie had another awful match with many, way too many missed opportunities. He may be the Premiership’s top scorer for us but how much I would love to see Carlos Vela alongside Adebayor. The Togo big man performed as he usually does, a lot of running, a lot of ball-shielding and great heart to give 101%. If his partner is a pure goalscorer, we would avoid sleepless nights thinking of wasted opportunities.

Arsenal’s coach Arsene Wenger, after the match:

am very proud of the way we came back with pride and we got a deserved victory. In the last 20 minutes of the first half we were on top of them.

We had to reshuffle the team because we have a compact squad but everyone can play. It was vital that we won for us to stay in the championship race.

Player Ratings

Almunia: 7 – Little to do, did it well.
Clichy: 7,5 – Full of running and contrary to other matches, I saw him clear the ball just like a defender should do!
Silvestre: 6 – It was his first match, was not easy, but got away with it.
Toure: 6 – Only a half for him, hope he’s ok.
Song: 6 – A solid performance, but this lad can so much improve.
Eboue: 6,5 – He yet again shows that if he wants to perform, he can deliver.
Fabregas: 7 – A maestro in midfield. Such a shame his pin-point passes are reaching van Persie who is not taking full advantage.
Denilson: 6 – More work to do for the Brazilian.
Nasri: 8,5 – PURE MAGIC.
Adebayor: 6,5 – He didn’t score, but I don’t expect him to. His job, again, is to shield the ball and serve the 1st striker and he’s doing it to perfection.
Van Persie: 5,5 – The goal can’t cancel the awful performance and missed chances.

(Subs)

Diaby: 6,5 – He’s back … with a bang. Should be a bit less selfish but glad to have him back.
Walcott: 7,5 – The man who changed the man. I repeat, he’s NOT a regular, he’s a bench-boy, ready to come on to turn the match around, just like he did today.
