Gooners rule us out, players count us in

I don’t think it is the points difference that is the problem because that can be turned around pretty easily over the course of a long season, it is the fact that we have played against pretty average or poor teams overall and have lost 3 games

Good Morning Gooners,

Many Gooners have ruled us out of the title race after horrendous performances and results, even myself the ever so optimistic Gooner has been wavering lately but it appears that the Arsenal players and opposition are not so quick to write us off.

Kolo Toure believes that the best place to turn it around is against our rivals on Saturday lunchtime.

Toure said:

“Beating Manchester United would definitely turn things around for us,” he said.

“A win would be really fantastic for us and would show that we’d be there for the title. But it’s not a must-win, it’s just another game.

“We know that the Premier League is really long, we are not in the second half yet.

“We just need to take it as a really important game and show United and those big clubs that we are there to fight for the title.

“It’s going to be a good game and we will show them we are still in the race for the title.

“We are fourth at the moment. We are six points behind but the season is really long. We just need to play game by game and win matches.”

I don’t think it is the points difference that is the problem because that can be turned around pretty easily over the course of a long season, it is the fact that we have played against pretty average or poor teams overall and have lost 3 games. That would have been unthinkable during pre season. Especially given the fact that we only lost 3 for the whole of the 2007/2008 season in the league.

The likes of Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge, Anfield, Villa Park. Goodison Park, Shite Hart Insane all await us as well as having all of the top sides at home to play.

Unless we can find consistency from now on and then we can go unbeaten against the top sides then I would imagine it would be difficult for us to win this league this time round. What we do know is that the team like to play against the big teams. Rightly or wrongly Arsenal sides of recent years show the passion needed and seem to be switched on against the rivals so lets hope that is the case on Saturday.

In terms of points, a victory against the current Premier League champions will be a positive but much more importantly could be the change of mental attitude that is needed. My one hope is that Johan Djourou keeps his place in the team, regardless of who is available for the match. I am not suggesting that he is the answer to all our problems (maybe I sorta am), I am just stating that he has produced good displays whenever he has been in the side. All three competitions (Prem, CL, Carling Cup) have shown solid displays from the big Ivorian Swiss.

Manchester United old boy, Ryan Giggs also expects Arsenal to have a say in the race.

Giggs said:

“When you look at the quality Arsenal have, I don’t think we can finish off their title hopes on Saturday.

“They have got a few players out at the moment – but all four top teams, if they are there or thereabouts, are capable of going on a run. That has always been the case.

“I expect us all to be involved at the end. We are going to have losses of form and not get the results we want. Hopefully we have had our poor spell.”

Well actually Ryan, hopefully you haven’t had your poor spell ok?! What gives him the right to go around say that ey? tut tut.

He is right about the players out part, we have all known that for a while now though.

Check out this scenario, close your eyes, ok maybe not because you cannot read what I am saying but you know what I mean.

Arsenal beat Manchester United or do not lose at least, the side build on the result and confidence starts coming back to the likes of Cesc, Nasri. Djourou remains in the side and produces world class performances. Winning headers from set pieces for fun. We go on a nice unbeaten streak, beating the crap sides and remaining unbeaten against the top 4. Our players are starting to come back from injury. Eduardo makes his comeback from the bench and scores on his return, the players are all smiling and happy again. Tomas Rosicky gets back to full fitness. Don’t wake up yet! Listen…

He stays fit and regains form, Arsene now has 3 quality wide players. Ramsey and Wilshere start to make more first team appearances from the bench and are impressing. 2 quality players come in during the January window and we are 2 points away from the top of the league.

That is where I am trying to keep my mind right now, hoping that lady luck buys a season ticket from an ungrateful Gooner.

Yes, I know you can make a case the other way but I don’t want to hear it. I don’t want to be sent into depression just yet. Lets all believe and maybe enough of us doing that can transmit to the players out there.

Ashtonshingly Cristiano Ronaldo wants 3 points out of us, get your own three points I say. Infact, don’t get your own 3 points. We want it. What? Sorry, talking rubbish. erm, he said this…

“We want to win the title so we have to get three points there.

“I don’t know if it is tough for them at the moment but they will still have 11 players, the same as us, and I know it will be difficult because it always is.

“But we have a great spirit and we are a great team, so our aim is to pick up three points.”

I have a feeling that he may provide to be a pain in the Arsenal on Saturday, he hasn’t been at his best so far this season and we all know that fate enjoys changing fortunes against us.

We do have the two best fullbacks the world has ever seen (apart from bloody crossing the ball!) so lets hope that they, depending on which side he goes on, does there very best to stop him scoring and providing.

As much as I hate the side he plays for, he is one the most exciting players in world football, along with Messi. Wonderful technique. To think that we were so close to signing him as a kid makes me that little bit sick inside. What kind of level would he be at with Arsene Wenger giving him the freedom of expression? We will never know.

Our lovely friends at the Sun are attacking our manager once again, coming out with titles like Madness of King Arsene but I won’t link to it or feed these idiots anymore than need be. The pundits already do enough of that.

I am looking forward to listening to Arsene’s press conference this afternoon and see what he has to see about Djourou and the game ahead.

And with that I be gone, I vanish in the wind. Be on the comments section during the day and back tomorrow with some pre match Manchester United tactical funk.

Goodbye and enjoy ones day.
