Well done to the youngsters – they have given us much pleasure again this season, and were it not for, I believe some obvious tactical blunders from Arsene, I am pretty certain we would be in the semi finals once again this year.

Alas it is not to be, and a lot of our most promising reserves will have to wait another season to show what they are capable of.

Like most dedicated Gooners, I watch every game – either live or on TV (or both) including the replays. Whilst I am the first to admit that Arsene has probably forgotten more than I’ll ever know about football, he does infuriate me sometimes with his tactical decisions.

Was Song injured? If not, why on earth did he not resume in the centreback role he performed with such dominance in the previous two great performances in this competition? Surely he is young and fit enough to play two games in 3 days. Djourou is too important to have taken a risk with, and he possibly had some kind of injury.

And why Bendtner in place of Simpson? Apart from the goal against Kyiv and a sprightly cameo against the Chavs, he has been piss poor all season. Very unfair on Simpson, I thought, and would he have missed those three gilt-edged one on one chances that the pink booted one did?

I am also at a loss to know why Coquelin did not get a kick in this game. He is far more useful to the team than the innocuous Lansbury. Whilst Randall probably deserved to start the game, it was soon obvious that in this match he simply wasn’t up to it. He couldn’t even get a regular game when he was on loan at Turf Moor for goodness sake!

It is early days I know, but having seen every minute of Amaury Bischoff’s appearances so far. and I reckon he is at least a season away from making any kind of impact in the first team.

I though Gibbs and Hoyte both had good games, and still think Fabianski is a better keeper than Almunia. Merida will definitely be a big player in a couple of years and Vela, Wilshere and Ramsey are of course ready now. Apart from them, we could certainly have done with Traore and Barazite back for this one, and if Arsene is going to keep to his usual ploy of fielding a mainly reserve team in the FA cup, they both need to come back in January.

Time for Bendtner to go perhaps.
