Will the Diaby / Ramsey partnership have balance?

It looks like Ramsey will partner Diaby which is a strange and probably not very balanced center of midfield, with either player not really natural at sitting

I’ll tell you what for nothing, I am pleased to be talking about something other than the transfer window, after all, this is the reason why we like the game so much. Watching men run around kicking a ball around grass as my girlfriend likes to keep telling me as if one day my brain will switch on and say ‘oh yeah, what am I doing!!’

It is the FA Cup today, which is always a little different. I have loved the FA Cup over the years, we as a club have had many fabulous times in this competition but I must admit the feeling for it has died down a little in the last few years.

Maybe with our inconsistent league form we will take the FA Cup a little more serious this time round as the hunt for silverware continues with Arsene’s third and youngest squad.

We welcome Plymouth from the Championship to the Emirates, and they get to test themselves against our somewhat depleted squad.

So why are we down to the bare bones? Kolo Toure all of a sudden has an injury which arises a suspicious tingle in me and makes me think that he could well be on his way out, but lets not go into that again. In the words of our manager, our creative and penetrative power is pretty much all out (Cesc, Rosicky and Walcott)

Denilson is out with a back problem and could well do with the rest after probably giving more than anyone else in an Arsenal shirt so far this season. I do think his work for the team is often undervalued.

Alex Song is also suspended which is a shame because I was looking forward to seeing how the Song / Diaby partnership would work out like. Two big men in the center, one allowing the other to roam forward while the other sits and mops. A bit like the old days really. Petit and Vieira and then Gilberto replacing Petit.

It looks like Ramsey will partner Diaby which is a strange and probably not very balanced center of midfield, with either player not really natural at sitting. They will both have to be very disciplined and I am sure Pat Rice will be barking out instructions from the touchline today.

Gael Clichy will also probably sit the game out as he attempts to get over his previous niggles and it will be foolish risking him unless he was 100% especially in a game like this where we SHOULD be favourites no matter what team we put out from our squad. Unless you want to play Almunia upfront and Eboue in goal.

Eboue in goal! That’s a funny thought.

Pretty much the rest of the team picks itself, but I am wondering if Arsene will do a bit of Wenginkering. Which is my new word for Arsene’s cup tinkering. You don’t have to like it ok?

I am thinking maybe either Bendtner or Vela, perhaps even both could find their way into the starting line up to A give the games and B rest the seniors ahead of Bolton. Having said that, Adebayor did sit out due to suspension and Van Persie didn’t come off the bench against Pompey.

Carlos Vela made a difference when he came on against Portsmouth and it would be nice to repay him with a start, preferably upfront where we need his movement. Big game for Sami Samir Nasri. We may see some switching between himself and Diaby. Nasri likes to pull strings from the middle and the flexibility of Diaby may just allow that during the 90 minutes, could be one to look out for.

Mean Lean’s match predictions

ok, maybe it is more of match guess than prediction. It is difficult to make an educated guess about a side that I have no knowledge on. I am interested by two areas, center midfield which I already discussed. Who will go who will sit, what the communication will be like between the pair. Having Eboue on the right will probably help those two. I am hoping that Wenger gives a chance to Carlos Vela to show what he can do. His movement is the best from our current fit strikers and if our attack and midfield click then he could have a great day.

Arsenal 3 (Diaby, Vela 2[should he start]) Plymouth 0

Have a great day Gooners! Be positive and enjoy the game.
