Welcome back to the Arshavin Show. *fade out theme music*
Day 64: Arshavin spend 17 minutes and 48 seconds deciding whether he should have weetabix or toast. We will see what he has tomorrow.
In other Arshavin news, apparently Inter Milan have joined the race (which seems a bit unfair as we could be out of breath now) The Mirror has run an exclusive about how Jose Mourinho wants to get one over Wenger, not that he wants the player of course. He just wants to make Arsene Wenger upset.
Do you want some quotes from the mirror about the Inter bid? Sorry, they forgot to include any. How about their source? hmmm, must have slipped their minds.
Ah well, its all definitely true then.
There has been rumours of Arshavin having a medical today but I assumed that had to have a bid excepted before we went ahead with paying for medicals. Maybe that’s just me. Sorry to upset you all, but I will have to leave the Arshavin news for today, surely their will be more tomorrow about his bath temperature.
From one creative talent to another, Arsene has been speaking of Samir Nasri’s central influence.
“He gave us a little bit more creativity in the centre, especially in a tight game like that,” said the manager.
“Of course, he [Nasri] is a link player and can also pass people.
“From then on it became a little bit more difficult for Bolton. It was my idea – sometimes accidentally I have them.”
As we all know Nasri has made a difference in a few games in the central position, he adds something from there that even Cesc doesn’t. He dribbles forward better and quicker than Cesc does, and although his passing isn’t yet as good as Fabregas, it ain’t half bad mate! The fact that he runs past people from the middle will open up many spaces which will help against packed defences.
I just wonder if Wenger is unsure about starting him in central midfield, does Wenger feel that Nasri can do enough going the other way? He currently tracks back quite well from the flank but asking him to go into 50:50 tackles and be much more physical is another matter altogether.
Part of the problem is the left wing, Arsene doesn’t want to start Vela out wide so until our midfield injuries clear up then he will not have the option of starting Nasri in the middle even if he wanted to.
Congratulations to the youth team who put Wolves to the sword in the FA Youth Cup Fifth Round. Gillies Sunu came off the bench to claim a hat trick, talk about taking your chance. What I found interesting was the use of Jack Wilshere. The talented Englishman was played behind the front man, much in the way that Bergkamp played for Arsenal. Arsene Wenger has already stated that he sees his future in that role, I am just surprised that he is being moved there so quickly.
It appears that he made a few quality passes during the game according to the match report. Unfortunately I missed the game so if anyone did watch it then please give me your views on the game in the comments section.
Speaking of youngsters, it was great to see Jay Simpson scoring so soon for West Brom. Apparently his goal was good (not good enough to get on YouTube as yet though)
He has received praise for his showing.
West Brom manager Tony Mowbray said:
“Maybe Jay Simpson’s quality and ability to score goals like he did [against Peterborough] will help us in the Premier League,” he said.
“Our team needs help in the goalscoring department. It needs creativity, because generally, week in and week out, ball retention is not a problem for us. Jay can help us there.”
I like Jay, I think he could be a very good impact player against teams who are tired. He will find it difficult to break through at Arsenal as the likes of Van Persie, Adebayor, Eduardo, Vela and currently Bendtner are ahead of him. It is up to him to reach higher levels and continue impressing with good performances for West Brom. Some goals against the big teams would be a good start.
Enjoy your day, back tomorrow.
