Sevilla Mare / Bendtner looks good

Arsene will be a bit nervous to know if the players can get this defeat out of the system, even the players who did not play

So our first defeat in season 2007-08 came at the hands of Sevilla. To be honest I expected it, expected our Carling cup team to be beaten by a quality Champions league side away from home. As I said yesterday it always takes Philippe Senderos a run of games to be match sharp, he has been out for far too long to be able to deal with inform strikers such as Kanonte and Luis Fabiano

Senderos was poor; he looked uncomfortable and clumsy, especially when you have Hoyte and Traroe around him. Senderos can only get away with that type of performance with Sagna and Clichy to bail him out. If Sendy continues at that rate then he will soon see himself as last choice center back underneath Alex Song.

As I read yesterday though, it is the best defeat that we could possibly get. We are already through to the next round and we have half a dozen players to come back into the side.

Arsene will be a bit nervous to know if the players can get this defeat out of the system, even the players who did not play will have this defeat somewhere hidden away in their subconscious. Aston Villa away will be an occasion for the leaders of the group. Gallas, Toure, Adebayor and Fabregas will have to lead by example and fight for every ball.

Not everything was bad though, Bendtner was the one shinning light from the side. He looked sharp and composed and could easily fit The Dane is certainly not a player that we should let go of. Technically Bendtner is at least as good as Adebayor and he is working hard whenever he gets his chance. He reminds me a little bit of Dennis Bergkamp the way he drops off the front line and collects the ball and finds other players. He has a long way to get anywhere near Berkamp’s class but he is only 19 years old. Arsene needs to rotate Adebayor and Bendtner alot more than he currently is doing.

Cesc Fabregas was taken off during the second half and I assumed that he was rested for the Villa game. But we found out that he has a hamstring strain. We are not yet sure how long he will be out for, lets just hope it is not for long.

until tomorrow.
