Arshavin nonsense hopefully coming to an end / Central Midfielder to come in?

I was a little baffled about why a player would fly all the way here without knowing what sort of money he would be getting from a club

So the end of the transfer window is in sight, I was going to do a video podcast about the transfer window and the whole Arshavin saga but I didn’t give myself enough time. If any signings are made then I might just do something like that in the near future.

I wasn’t a very happy chappy this morning, I actually paid attention to a Sky Sports ‘source’ who is apparently close to the deal and said that Arshavin was flying back to Russia after personal terms broke down, I am sure many Gooners broke down after listening to the news also.

I was a little baffled about why a player would fly all the way here without knowing what sort of money he would be getting from a club. I am pretty sure Mr Lachter and Arsenal have had enough conversations to know where both parties stand on the financial front.

It appears that talks are still ongoing between Zenit and Arsenal, a compromise should surely be reached. I just cannot believe it has taken so long, its madness.

If he does sign then I hope he can twist and turn as much as this long drawn out transfer.

Its okay though because speedster Theo Walcott is soon back and ready for some hardcore Arsenal action. Arsene said that he should be visiting a specialist in 4 weeks and will hopefully receive the all clear. Theo looks like a player who takes a little while to get back to his top level so I expect him to look very rusty when he first returns. Just having his presence on the pitch sets fear into left backs around the country because they know if Walcott is allowed to go then they will not catch him.

I could have sworn that Theo was supposed to be back for February, ah well. It looks like another 6-8 weeks for Cesc and Rosicky to feature, if all goes planed of course. When mentioning Rosicky you have to throw in that line.

It is a shame that the game tomorrow has been postponed, I do not know what this means for our fixture congestion but I am sure it cannot help very much. Can’t someone pour some hot water over the pitch or something? I mean come on, there must be ways of dealing with snow in 2009. All this state of the art stuff and we cannot deal with what nature throws at us.

Interesting comments from our manager regarding the difference between Manchester United and Arsenal.

“We can of course compete but we have a young team and we have gone a different way,” he said after Saturday’s goalless draw with West Ham. “We go through a period where we have to accept maybe to be strong and patient a little bit.

“Man United bought Berbatov for £31.5m and you look at the cost of their team and you will understand why.”

Many of our fans do not seem to take into consideration the vast difference of funding that Wenger and Ferguson have used to build their respective teams. To be honest we have over achieved with Arsene Wenger in comparison to the money spent by other managers around the Premier League. This is not to say for one moment that we should be in the league position that we currently are but it is the truth. Look at Tottenham for example, they are the joke of English football right now and they continue to endlessly spend millions and millions of players and they never improve.

We do not need to spend stupid amounts of money but we do need quality added to the squad as many are missing. I would not be surprised to see a central midfielder come during the last moments of the window. Diaby out means we are down the barest of bones and champions league football is so important. We currently only have Denilson, Song and Ramsey and we saw against Cardiff that Aaron is still developing. But then what happens when everyone is back in the squad fresh from injuries? This is the problem that the boss is facing right now. I suppose it depends on Abou’s injury.

Well that’s about it for now, I may write something this evening if something exciting happens in the window. It blinking better do!

UPDATE: According to Sky we have agreed a deal with Zenit and Arshavin has agreed terms. More to come I’m sure.
