Eddie-buy-or, other options? / Impressive Coquelin

I find it funny reading around the Arsenal blogs at times, many people were calling for Adebayor to leave now those very same people are worrying about Wenger not buying a replacement

Later than usual weekday post, been doing a bit of shopping for a lads stag do trip to Amsterdam, which should be very enjoyable.

So now I sit down at my laptop with piles of work to do but it appears that it will not be long before I am doing that work because there is very little to write about today. Even the whole Adebayor news has gone a little hush hush. Where is the Daily Mail when you need it? I should really watch what I say, I may get more than I bargained for.

Let me just take this opportunity to go back a couple days to the Barnet fixture. I missed out on a few things due to time restraints. I didn’t get the chance to mention the little French midfield maestro Francis Coquelin. Quite surprised to see Frimpong get the go ahead to play with the seniors whilst Coquelin turned out for the young ones in the second half.

Not that it means anything at this stage, the Emirates cup will be better to judge.

Coquelin looks like such a complete pocket sized bundle of energy. He seems to come from the Gael Clichy school of interceptions, speeding in and nicking the ball away from opposition toes. Very neat and tidy in possession and strong for a 17 year old (if he is still 17 years old)

I am hoping to see him start the season as a Carling Cup starter but he has some real competition in that area, especially at that level. I assume some players will start going out on loan so we can see what happens there.

If he develops as he is then I expect him to become part of the first team squad when he is in his very early twenties.

I find it funny reading around the Arsenal blogs at times, many people were calling for Adebayor to leave now those very same people are worrying about Wenger not buying a replacement. I guess it will depend largely on which formation Wenger deploys from now on.

If we start games with one striker more often than not, then is another striker vital when we have the likes of Eduardo, Van Persie, Bendtner, Vela and Walcott as strikers with Arshavin, Rosicky, Nasri and even Cesc as second strikers.

Wenger knows exactly what he wants to do, he knows if he is desperate for another forward or if he is content with what he has. He knew of Adebayor’s departure last season and would have acted appropriately. I would love Eduardo to be able to successfully lead the line on his own, if he can do that then there is no reason that he cannot be a success for the team as long as of course he stays clear of injuries.

*Considers talking about the Martins rumour – quickly thinks against it*

Hunterlaar as expected as gone to Stuttgart, he was never even in Arsene’s radar.

Continuing on the striking theme the press are giving the impression that Marouane Chamakh has given up on any hope of joining Arsenal. The quotes attributed to the player seem very vague, so I wouldn’t trust that until something more concrete surfaced.

Something a little more concrete is the possibility of Mark Randall going on loan to Derby County, I say a little more concrete because nothing is certain as yet. Randall has plenty of competition in the center of midfield at Arsenal so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him sign for another club in the near future if he wants more first team football.

Well that is roughly about the size of things, yep, pretty small. We have the pre season game against SC Columbia, so at least we have to look forward to.
