I have been trying to second guess Arsene Wenger about his selection on the weekend, when I say selection I am pretty much talking about Arshavin. My guess is that Eboue will not start, he will be saved for Roma and it is out of Vela and Arshavin
This morning most of the content being passed around is from an interview with Samir Nasri and yesterday from Emmanuel Adebayor.
Lets start with the French wing wizard shall we? Nasri appears to have the faith of our manager, he thinks that he team will benefit greatly from the return of our injured players.
Nasri said:
“I don’t think it is a central midfielder that Arsenal have been lacking. What we have really been missing is the injured players and when they come back you’ll see a different face to this Arsenal team.”
He certainly sounds like a clever chappy to me. I have been shouting that off all season but it seems that some sections of ‘support’ seem to forget that, or choose to ignore it. They see Eboue, Bendtner (when he was having a difficult time) and Silvestre and claim that we are not good enough, we have gone backwards etc etc. I am not going to start going into that in detail as I have done many a time but to me it is obvious. Remove key players for chunks of a season and you will struggle.
Rosicky, Cesc, Walcott and now Eduardo are the new face of this Arsenal team along with window signing Andrey Arshavin.
Nasri is also looking forward to having Arshavin onboard and giving the team that something extra in the final third that the team have been missing.
Nasri said:
“I played against [Andrey] Arshavin when he was at Zenit St Petersburg and I was at Marseille, he’s an excellent player.
“He will give us that little bit more penetration and incisiveness which the team have been lacking recently.”
I am wondering where Arsene plans on playing Arshavin. Like many of our wide players of the past few years, he looks most dangerous coming in from the left onto his stronger side. Just like Nasri, Rosicky and Hleb before them.
He has played wide on the right as well for both club and country. Perhaps the extra pace that he seems to have will be more beneficial on the right. It doesn’t really matter where the players start off as when they have the ball they will all have pretty much free roles to come inside, switch sides as we witnessed against Cardiff City on Monday night.
I have been trying to second guess Arsene Wenger about his selection on the weekend, when I say selection I am pretty much talking about Arshavin. My guess is that Eboue will not start, he will be saved for Roma and it is out of Vela and Arshavin for the available spot on the flank.
Nasri was also speaking about the clash with Gallas at the Euros. It sounded like handbags to me. When Henry was injured Nasri sat on his seat on the coach and when Henry came back Nasri was sitting in his seat. Gallas and Nasri had a row about it but it all blew over after a conversation between the two. Well it was something like that.
Emmanuel Adebayor has been the talk of many a fan so far this season, after a successful season last year along with the summer saga and dip in form would see him become the target of unrest.
Ade has been speaking about his form and trophies.
“I know having scored 30 goals in a season that people will always be waiting for more this season but the most important thing is to keep on going and to progress,” he said.
“I have 12 already but to score another 18 now would not be easy. But I don’t care if I stop on 12 goals if we win something with the club.
“To win trophies is more important than scoring goals but if we are to win trophies we will need to score some goals. This club needs trophies and that’s what we are fighting for.”
He obviously hasn’t been as consistent as he was last year but when you look at his goalscoring tally then it is hard to fault it really. We have all been raving about Robin Van Persie and his goals but the facts are that he has scored only 2 more goals than his strike partner in 26 starts. Adebayor has started 2 less games than Robin, so it is far fetched to say that he could score 2 in 2 games and equal Van Persie.
His work rate has been questioned this season, it is hard to comment on that without seeing the stats in front of me. Does anyone know where you can get the stats of distance covered, that would be interesting. I would also like to compare Flamini and Denilson in that same way.
I am very much undecided about the Adebayor and Arsenal partnership. Don’t get me wrong, I am a massive fan of Adebayor on form and think he gives the team a very good outlet, he is a massive handful for defenders. But I think our football can suffer sometimes. I know it was Cardiff City but the interplay between Eduardo, Vela and Bendtner was fantastic.
It is almost like whichever strike force we use many (including myself) will be thinking about the strong points that the other strikers sitting on the bench have.
All of our forward players have attributes that benefit the team.
For example, how can you leave out a natural finisher like Eduardo out of the starting line up but flip the coin around, how can Eduardo hold the ball up, win duels in the air against big center halves away from home etc etc
The same can be said for the like of Vela, Bendtner, Walcott (if moved there), Simpson etc etc
Some will say that we can rotate our front players and use certain players for certain occasions but we really want to develop and maintain partnerships.
We have never really had this before. Bergkamp and Henry were always first on the team sheet and the rest were backups.
I have an idea, instead of me stressing about it, why don’t I just leave it to the manager who has a fair idea of what he is doing.
On that note, I shall disappear into the distance. Enjoy you’ all day.
Back again tomorrow
