The truth is, both players were immense infront of the back four and were well worth their place in the team

Thank god football is back, not only back but back with an extra three points added on to our points total. Manchester City were put to the sword by two of the returning stars.
Questions of who from Denilson or Song would be left out to accommodate Cesc needn’t have even been asked as Wenger made room for all three into his new 4-2-3-1. Cesc was thrown into a position behind the front man. Certainly not a decision that I was expecting and I am sure that can be said for many supporters.
I was unsure if Wenger would start three players who are not match sharp at the same time but I guess injuries to important squad members robbed Arsene from making those other choices.
The game begun at a nice speed, both teams looking to attack and create chances for their respective teams.
Arsenal were awarded a free kick by the byline after Robinho aggressively barged into Sagna. Cesc floated a ball into the penalty area to Adebayor who stooped to head a low be past Shay Given. 1-0 nice and early just how we want it.
Kolo Toure danced around Wayne Bridge on the right side of the penalty area and could have squared it for waiting team mates but Toure decided to go for glory which Given blocked at his near post.
Shaun Wright-Phillips had City’s first chance when played in through the right channel, his low shot was saved by Almunia’s legs.
Arsenal were having plenty of possession without creating many clear cut chances. Cesc was involving himself without really penetrating. Adebayor was drifting out to the right which often meant a lack of presence in the penalty box.
Manchester City should have drawn level on the half hour mark, City sliced through the Arsenal defence and the ball fell to Fernandes with Almunia to beat, he didn’t have composure and fired wide of Almunia’s left post.
Theo Walcott was given the rough treatment from the City team and found himself flattened on numerous occasions. But luckily he came through it.
The night before the game myself and a mate who I was sitting with had a debate about who was more effective out of Denilson and Song, we both disagreed and during the game had a bit of banter by praising our choice of player every time they did something well. The truth is, both players were immense infront of the back four and were well worth their place in the team.
Song demonstrated his class when he interchanged with Arshavin on the edge of the area. Song back flicked the ball into the path of the Russian inside the penalty area but his side footed effort was saved.
Arshavin was not influencing the same like we know he can but he contributed to the good football and didn’t do very much wrong.
It took Arsenal 8 minutes to grab the opening goal from the kick off and it took the boys only 5 minutes after half time to reinforce their lead.
Fabregas showed everyone what we have been missing by floating a superb chipped pass over the head of Dunne to the feet of Emmanuel Adebayor who rounded Shay Given and tapped in for his second goal. Two goals for Ade, two assists for Cesc.
It may not have been their best games but that end product will be vital in this final run in.
Song should have made it three but his glanced header sailed over the bar. Adebayor also scuffed an effort into Given’s arms.
Bendtner replaced Adebayor and Eboue replaced Theo Walcott.
Eboue made a huge impact when he came on, he was direct and made the correct passes in the final third.
Cesc was given a standing ovation when he was replaced by Ramsey, it was enough to make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.
Bendtner sliced a left foot shot wide late on but we couldn’t quite get our revenge for our 3-0 defeat to City but 2-0 was enough and the three points are more important.
The International break has not put a halt to the momentum of the lads, lets hope it can continue on Tuesday night.
