I rate Peter Crouch as a footballer, and the preverbal good feet for a big man springs to mind but in my eyes he is not an Arsenal player and I do not imagine Arsene wanting a player who cannot get in behind a back four and run the channels as Adebayor does.
Has speculation ever been as crazy as this in past summers at Arsenal? It appears that we have a collection of 3 news players that we are chasing or set to sign every single day. I actually want this to be over with now, if I could close my eyes and open them to find the transfer window closed then I would be happy, obviously we would have added some quality to the positions that we need with Eboue ending up at Tottenham for £45 million. (Just kidding Eboue fans *ahem)
Right, where do we start today? ok, I read in the Mirror that.
Super-agent Vincenzo Morabito told Italian TV show Studio Sport:
“Arsenal are exploring the transfer market for a substitute for Adebayor.
“The names being talked about are Peter Crouch, Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz and Germany forward Mario Gomez.
“What are the chances of Adebayor joining Milan? At this stage, we are at 70 per cent to 80 per cent.”
Arsenal players + Agent talk = bullshit most of the time but there appears to be a little to much talk about this Adebayor away from Arsenal for it to be 100% false. Lets just run with it for a second.. Crouch, Santa Cruz and Mario Gomez are all names that do not fill me with any great confidence I must say.
I rate Peter Crouch as a footballer, and the preverbal good feet for a big man springs to mind but in my eyes he is not an Arsenal player and I do not imagine Arsene wanting a player who cannot get in behind a back four and run the channels as Adebayor does. Infact, Ade is one of the only strikers we have at the club who has the pace to do those two jobs well.
Van Persie is a creative half striker with powerful shooting, the more I see of Bendtner the more I see another link forward who drops off into areas and joins in with the midfielders.
Ideally I would want Adebayor to keep his number 25 shirt at Arsenal and continue to improve under Wenger but if we are to replace him then surely it will be for a striker who players off the shoulder of the center back, someone with pace.
I have to admit, I miss the Bergkamp and Henry style partnership. Would Wenger consider going back to that? I suppose we will have to see what our squad looks like at the end of the window.
Back to Adebayor, The Sun have decided that Adebayor has asked for a whopping £120,000 a week contract to stay at Arsenal. I wonder where they got that figure from. Sounds good anyway doesn’t?
I have so much respect for Cesc Fabregas for speaking out against Barcelona’s poaching tactics. This boy has so much guts and character. I wish I had his bottle at his age.
“A club like Barca should show a bit more respect to the intimacy of a club like Arsenal that never make a lot of noise [over transfers] and who always try to do things properly,” Fabregas said. “In the last few weeks it’s come out that Barca are in for at least seven Arsenal players and there’s no need for that.
“These things cause doubts in the mind of the players and unsettle us. Arsenal do things differently, always in secret, and that’s much more normal. They [Barcelona] shouldn’t do things so that everybody knows about it. If the player wants to go he’ll go anyway.”
‘A club like Barca should show a bit more respect’ against his boyhood club. That is just amazing. I am joining the Cesc for captain bandwagon. I don’t think there is much room on the bandwagon now, a lot of people have hopped off Gallas’ in the last few months.
It looks like my dream of Arshavin joining us is slowly fading. I was wondering why the ‘I dream of Barca’ comments came out. It appears that Barca have already made an approach to the talented player.
“Barcelona has made a formal proposal to Zenit for the purchase of Arshavin,” Zenit sporting director Konstantin Sarsaniya told Sovietski Sport.
If that is the case then it is obvious that Barcelona have already spoken to the player because we all know that they like to do things the wrong way around.
But having said that, the Daily mail said… yeah Daily Mail, exactly, never mind.
Arsene has spoken of his calm about losing players for next season.
“I know a lot has been written about us, but I am very calm,” Wenger said. “Why? Because I don’t know why I should be nervous. It’s like when you take a penalty, if you are nervous it doesn’t help. I will approach it with my usual calm. My biggest challenge is to make sure I have a competitive team next year no matter who it is.”
It is interesting to read how it has changed from keeping the players together to ‘make sure I have a competitive team next year’ I may well be reading a little far into it though.
Good match last night wasn’t it? I have enjoyed the Turks this year, they have showed a lot of positive play and attitude over the last few games and they were unlucky to be knocked out. But the Germans being the Germans did what they needed to get to the final. Looking forward to Arshavin vs Cesc tonight (should Cesc start) I predict another highly entertaining game. I actually think the Russians will get revenge and guess who will be at the heart of it?
