We could well see Van Persie drop into a wide position probably the left with Eboue on the right with Hleb playing off Adebayor to provide a midfield three when needed
So another twist enters the race for the title. Chelsea surrender leads on more than one occasion to end up drawing 4-4 at White Hart lane. It could well have been worse for them as Berbatov had a wonderful chance in injury time to make it 5-4 but Carlo Cudicini made a fantastic point blank save to deny him.
I was sitting in my living room with the Manchester United vs Bolton, Tottenham vs Chelsea and Portsmouth Reserves vs Arsenal Reserves matches all on at the same time much to the displeasure of my girlfriend.
Chelsea and Manchester United both scored early goals and it made me think of our own teams problems of scoring goals at present. After Ronaldo scored yet another ridiculous freekick I switched the Manchester United to the background and concentrated on the Spurs Chelsea game.
I wanted to clarify my thoughts about why I think things are not going right for us at the moment. I compared Chelsea’s attacking play and I saw a difference. Chelsea played the ball alot quicker around the pitch and were alot more aggressive in their passing from the first minute. Joe Cole had a wonderful game and I was more than shocked to see him replaced late in the second half for Ballack.
Robbie Keane’s goal was instinctive and executed perfectly. I don’t often cheer a Spurs goal but I am proud to say that I did last night. Chelsea conceded 4 goals and may be wounded by letting in a goal right at the death. As Apollo’s old trainer said to Rocky, in Rocky 4. ‘He’s cut, see he is not a machine’ (Something along those lines)
Chelsea’s home record can be broken, I actually believe we will beat them. As long as we approach them game differently to our last 4 league matches.
I was thinking about both of the games played whilst washing up and came to the conclusion that we need to get back to passing the ball alot quicker in the final third. I also feel that alot of people are saying that Manchester United will still drop alot of points. I do not agree. Manchester United are the one team who have been consistently mentally strong. I think that the only games they could slip up on are the Chelsea and Arsenal games. We have to match that, we have to win every other game and battle hard against the other two.
After I finished washing up I watched Cristiano Ronaldo’s debut for Manchester United off the bench against Bolton. The match came on after one of last nights games. It was sensational. This skinny, cocky Portuguese teenager made a massive impact and ran the Bolton side ragged.
I cannot believe we were so close to getting him, he would have made us almost complete.
Arsene knows that we need that kind of player. I am sure that Robinho was the super super player that he was talking about, and would have signed him if Capello had stayed on as Real Madrid manager. I mentioned earlier in the season when all was going fine that we missed a match winner. Our strength is our passing. We can pass teams to death and have been doing that all season, but the team is not playing well how can we win?
Van Persie is a quality player but he is not going to sprint past 3 players and bend it round the keeper. Cesc is one of the best midfield players in world football but he needs his teammates to win matches.
We currently do not have enough outlets for the likes of Cesc and Hleb to find. We previously had Overmars, Anelka, Henry and Ljungberg as outlets who will run off the ball and do the damage in the final third. Because our passing is not currently functioning we do not have the player who can commit the opposition.
Ronaldo is probably the best in the world for this reason. I hope that Arsene can address this in the summer. Unless he has faith in Eboue. Eboue has been our only outlet in recent games and that tells you something. Eboue is direct, quick and powerful but he currently lacks the quality in the final third. He has not scored a goal this season and has assisted 1 or 2. That is obviously not good enough for a title winning side.
Adebayor is the only other outlet in the side. Adebayor has alot more roles in this side than just a goal scorer. He is the outlet, he is the target man, he runs the channels and he is the first line of defence. Some Arsenal fans do not see the roles and work that he provides for the team.
I expect to see a formation change on Sunday, Tottenham had problems dealing with three central midfielders Lampard, Essien and Makelele. Jenas and Zakora were over run and out passed. We could well see Van Persie drop into a wide position probably the left with Eboue on the right with Hleb playing off Adebayor to provide a midfield three when needed. If we can score first then we can win the game. I think the most probable result is a draw though.
I almost forgot to mention that despicable, treacherous runt (change the ‘r’ if you wish) of a human being, Ashley Cole. His behaviour was truely disgusting. He should of been sent off for the tackle but should be banned for weeks for his decent. Could you imagine Gael Clichy behaving like that? No, neither could I.
Arsenal have done something that they do not often do. Peter Hill-Wood has come out and stated that we are interested in buying St Etienne captain Loic Perrin.
Why have we come out to the press about this? Is it to put pressure on Flamini on signing a new deal?
“We have made him a proposal,” said Hill-Wood. “We have heard from his representatives but they have not given us a response.”
Perrin has been recommended to Arsene Wenger by The Gunners’ French scout Gilles Grimandi and is valued in the region of £5 million by his club.
I thought I better add a customary you tube clip.
Before I go I want to mention the young guns beating Portsmouth reserves 2-0. I was impressed once again with alot of the youngsters. Rui Fonte looks like a player with alot of talent. His touch and movement was great. Barazite once again showed that he is ready for a place in the first team squad.
Check out the great Young Guns website for the MATCH REPORT
Right, I am off to get an eggggsanwish!
Until tomorrow.
