Arsenal tempo must change / Inler in talks?

Arsene Wenger is a big advocate of conserving energy and I am sure he has some qualification in physical conditioning so he should know more than me but

Strange freeze head just then. I plenty to say today but just didn’t know where or how to start and I just sat here staring at my screen thinking about all sorts of crap that doesn’t relate to Arsenal whatsoever.

Anyway, that has allowed my waffle to flow. Ah, before I do start I just want to apologise for spelling Aaron Ramsey’s name wrong in my post yesterday. I was spelling it as Ramsay for some reason, I know how annoying it is to read a spelling error so that I hold my hand up.

I am not one for planning articles or thinking too much about what I am writing, I always find it is better when it is spontaneous even if it comes out as crap, it is what is in my head so it is more real. More real? that sounds like I am at primary school.

I have no mentioned it yet so I think it is time. It looks like Justin Hoyte could find himself playing first team football at Middlesborough next season after Arsenal accepted a bid for the Arsenal boy. I think it is clear that he isn’t quite Arsenal quality. However I do feel like he could be a good defensive right back had he had a run of games in that position but as I said Arsenal fullbacks have a new pile of work on their desk and that is to become a winger as well as a defender.

As we all know by now, Arsene plays with creative players on the wing who come inside and join the likes of Cesc in pulling the strings and our full backs overlap and provide the width to the team. I think Arsene uses this to counteract the many teams who play us and stick 5 in midfield and try and out number us. Sometimes we end up playing 2-7-2 during matches with Toure and Gallas the speedy insurance at the back in case of a counter attack. Changing the subject slightly, that is why I think sometimes it doesn’t matter who we have at the back we will always be vulnerable on the counter because of our system, however it does not excuse the positioning of the central defenders at times or the lack of height on long balls. Back to what I was talking about in the first place, Justin Hoyte just isn’t good enough technically on the ball or attack minded enough to add to the offensive side of our game.

It is a shame because there are not many Gooners amongst our squad and it would have been great if he had made the position his own before Sagna arrived but obviously now that he is here, Hoyte has no chance of replacing the best right back in the Premier League and probably Europe (not that I have seen every right back in Europe, but you catch my drift)

Emmanuel Adebayor wants the Gunners to toughen up and win at all costs.

“A lot of people talk about us and say we play good football,’’ Adebayor said. “Good football is good, but we didn’t win anything and you play to win.

“What we are going to keep in our heads is that playing football is good but sometimes you have to be tough to win a game. That’s what we have to do. Sometimes you have to be dirty to win some games.

“You need to do that because it’s part of football. Sometimes you have to forget about trying to play beautiful football and just make sure you win the game. When I signed for Arsenal I knew I had the chance to win a lot of things.

“I’ve been here for almost three years and still haven’t won anything. It’s difficult. Last year we were very, very close to winning something, but ended up winning nothing.

“Of course we have the mental strength. We have a young team with good talented players.”

He is of course correct, we do need to do everything to win games. To be honest I do not think it is a case of changing our style to win matches. I have always been frustrated with the players attitude to some games. I may be wrong but our tempo is often quite slow and one paced if we are playing against an inferior side unless we go a goal down which we did on a regular basis a couple of seasons ago. Watch matches against Manchester United, Ac Milan, Chelsea etc and we fly out from the blocks closing people down and play quick attacking football which is decisive but against weaker opposition we slow the game right down and play a lot of sideways passes and the occasional back flick will come out until.. oops, they have scored from a set piece and we have missed 657 chances. Then we speed it up and play like we would against a bigger side then bang 10-20 minutes later we have scored but we only have 15 minutes to get the winner which we have managed many times but not always.

It is almost as if the players have ‘BE PATIENT’ stuck in their minds so much that they cannot start strongly. I would rather we started at full pace get the margin we need then slow the game down and take the sting out of it and play on the counter if we need to.

I have watched Manchester United and they face the same problems as us, teams go to Old Trafford parking the proverbial bus and they hammer away at the opposition until the concede which is usually quicker than us. Once that happens, it has to be a different game because what use is it to the opposition to hold onto a 1 or 2 goal deficit?

I found that we started last season quite well and wanted to prove that we could challenge but as soon as we started heading the table we became complacent and those draws could have been wins much sooner in the matches.

Wigan away (0-0 final score) was the perfect example. Shit pitch or not, we only started playing in the last 15 minutes. By that point it was too late

Arsene Wenger is a big advocate of conserving energy and I am sure he has some qualification in physical conditioning so he should know more than me but even with this tactic it still seems like we do not have more energy or less injuries at the so called business end of the season, infact we seem to have less.

So to the West Brom game on Saturday. I am a little disturbed by this to be honest, just a personal matter not the actual game. We (not really we) are hosting my father in-laws surprise birthday party at 1pm! Yes 1pm bang in the middle of the match but I will have the game on at the same time and just face the consequences afterwards.

Sorry, had to share my grief but to the game itself. I think we will witness a more fluid Arsenal team as we are playing infront of our fans and should have that extra creativity in Nasri who will hopefully be restore to the line up in place of Eboue, with Theo playing back on his more natural right flank.

Arsene really shouldn’t bring Toure back into the side, infact I would go as far as to say that one of my favourites should have to fight to get back into the side. Toure has only a measly 90 minutes pre season under his belt came into training much later than the rest of the squad (along with Cesc) and is far from match fitness and sharpness. Djourou has pretty much a full pre season under his belt and is looking good right now. I doubt that Arsene will bring Toure back with all those factors so hopefully he should take his place on the bench.

I expect Nasri to be a little short of his best as he has not played since the Emirates cup but he should have enough creativity to pull the strings. I really want to see Vela come off the bench and make an impact. I like the young Mexican. His movement and pace is something great for a creative passing team like ours and I expect him to be a supersub for a big part of the season.

I have just read the headline Ghokhan Inler will take Ljungberg’s No.8 shirt from Myles Palmer (ANR), he must have forgotten that Nasri has taken the shirt. Then he changed the headline to Ghokhan Inler will take No.18 shirt

Then to make it look like he didn’t make the mistake he added this..

Also – I’m guessing here – I think he would like playing with No.8 Samir Nasri.

Well that fooled me didn’t it! haha.

I actually think we will sign Inler, I do belive that he is the one in talks at the moment. I watched some Swiss games and he looks big and powerful, decent passer as well. As Arseblogger mentions on today’s Arsecast, I expect him to sign another player. Maybe a versatile player who can cover a number of positions.

Before I go, I noticed that a few tabloids have picked up on the Dutch Speaking McClaren in todays newspapers. I mentioned it in yesterdays MyVision and the video that I added to YouTube has been taken down, infact they have gone one step further and closed down my account. I am in floods of tears about that.

Right, waffle over for now. Be adding more in comments when I get the chance so join me, enjoy that Friday feeling.
