I expect Arsenal and Chelsea to win more games and draw less this season. Manchester United haven’t really changed much this season apart from the capture of Berbatov from Tottenham
The so called top two played out a 1-1 draw yesterday and I sat there thinking that there was nothing in the game to make me feel that we have anything to worry about.
The usual strength in depth issue comes up and I will say that Chelsea probably have the biggest squad in the league as they can afford to but they didn’t win any trophies last season. Manchester United have such a massive experienced squad that when their first choice center half Vidic gets suspended they bring in an inexperienced youngster in Evans. There would be uproar (from our own fans) had someone like Evans with a handful of games under his belt been brought into a game against Chelsea for us.
You would say that defensively both teams look stronger than us and that sure is very possible although I would argue that offensively we are the best side in the league, regardless of what strikers Manchester United have up their sleeves.
We didn’t lose many games last season but we drew too many games against average to poor teams. Arsenal drew games because we didn’t have enough goalscorers in the side. Cesc was the only player scoring from midfield during the season and Adebayor had too much responsibility to find winners. Arsene has corrected this problem by swapping a wide creative player (Hleb) for a wide creative, goalscoring player (Nasri) Theo Walcott has claimed a first team place this season and he has 15+ goals in his locker.
I am still waiting for the Cesc through ball to Walcott’s diagonal run from right to left. I feel that will be the new Petit -> Overmars the new Pires -> the new Bergkamp -> Ljungberg.
Creatively we haven’t seen the best form of Cesc Fabregas as yet, he has been working for the team, chasing opposition players, keeping the ball moving but we haven’t seen him drive forward in the final third and cause real damage.
I expect Arsenal and Chelsea to win more games and draw less this season. Manchester United haven’t really changed much this season apart from the capture of Berbatov from Tottenham. Berbabtov may be a negative influence as well as a positive one depending on the Bulgarians mood.
I am pleased that Johan Djourou has signed a new contract with the club and looks like being the new Senderos. Not in terms of ability because they are different players but in terms of squad position. Djourou looks to be first choice back up with is a little surprising. What happened to Alex Song the new sensation? Wenger said that he would not play him in midfield because he couldn’t cope with playing a high number of games in that position. Song started alongside Cesc against Bolton and could well start against Sheffield United tomorrow.
Arsene has said that he plans to name Arsenals youngest team in history tomorrow in the Carling cup clash with Sheffield United.
My guess for the line up is..
Hoyte Djourou Song Gibbs
Wilshere Ramsey Randall Merida
Vela Bendtner
It could really be a combination of any of the young squad, so don’t shoot me if I am wrong.
Have a evening. Drop your view in the comments.
Until tomorrow.
