Van Persie is not the kind of player who will produce a step over and run past 3 defenders. He is the player who needs the ball into feet on the edge of the penalty box not near the byline. At least play him on the right where he can cut in
Welcome to the late night edition of My Vision, does this mean I can swear every other word and include some naked pictures of Megan Fox? Maybe I won’t do that but I could if I wanted to. Where is this going exactly? Oh yeah, its late. The reason for this lateness is because I didn’t have any time to write the blog earlier as I was filling in doing the Match Review. For any new readers, reading this then do not click it because its pretty damn shit to be honest, I had to throw it together as Squid boy unfortunately wasn’t available to write it.
So what did you make of the game last night? Disappointed? Pleased? I would go with a bit of both in the end I guess. Should have won, messed up, on the verge of losing so a draw is a fair reflection of that I suppose.
Is it me or have you had enough of Robin Van Persie on the left wing? I do not understand it one bit. I would go as far as to say I cannot remember ONE game in Europe where Van Persie has played on the left and played well. Not only does it stop our creative edge on that side but more importantly it stifles our most creative, gifted striker.
Van Persie is not the kind of player who will produce a step over and run past 3 defenders. He is the player who needs the ball into feet on the edge of the penalty box not near the byline. At least play him on the right where he can cut in.
I understand that playing 5 across the midfield is a good tactic in Europe because it helps us keep the ball and we look more solid but what is wrong with the deep striker dropping off into midfield when we do not have the ball? Then at least the team keeps its shape. Van Persie is not exactly going to cover for Clichy when he bombs forward. I agree with most things that Wenger does but this Van Persie winger lark is not one that I think I will ever agree on.
We are clearly missing a fit, sharp and inventive Cesc Fabregas. The last time we really saw Cesc was in the European Championships, it looks like he is still in pre season mode so Cesc and Van Persie out of the game but involved was a bit part of the performance displayed by the team.
**pulls out his magic box of positives**
Would you care to take a look? Well first of all we have Alex Song. Ridiculed by many fans when he first took to the scene *hides head in shame* went away on loan, now is an established International and looks the part. He slotted in alongside Cesc pretty well and looked very calm and composed on the ball.
Another positive was the return of Carlos Vela who came on for Van Persie late in the second half, he didn’t get many touches of the ball in the short time he was on the pitch but at least he is back and ready to take his place in the squad for the Bolton game.
Just when I packed away the ‘we were gonna get’ list for December, I have had to dig it out again and add the name Yaya Toure as the Barca midfield enforcer claimed that he turned down Arsenal’s advances to stay at Barca and sit nicely on the bench giving Alex Hleb cuddles.
“Wenger, as well as my brother told me to join Arsenal during the summer, but I answered them that I was happy at Barcelona,” Toure told RAC-1.
“We cannot play with 12,” he added. “I am very good physically but we must respect the decisions of the coach.
“I am a professional and, if I do not play, what I must do is help the team. I will be patient.
“Competition is good. We have two players of great quality and this position is key to the best team in the world.”
Well he certainly does sound like he has the correct attitude to play for Arsenal, but as he said, he is happy at Barca. God, the January window will be worse for speculation than the summer window.
So Bolton next up, I was kinda hoping that we would have some injured players back for the game but it appears that is not the case.
French trio Nasri, Diaby and Silvestre are all missing from the game. Wenger spoke to Arsenal online about the state of the players.
For Diaby, I would say two more weeks [until he is fit], Silvestre and Nasri should be available for Hull [at Emirates Stadium on September 27].
Still no mention of Tomas Rosicky, it is getting a little bit painful now. Look, I am all for a compact squad who can interchange and play in various positions which makes the squad a little bigger but what is the point of a small injury prone squad? It just feels like we are always struggling to get our best players together on the pitch. Will we ever see the day when EVERYONE is fit and fighting for spots in the team.
