Arsene Wenger has done an amazing job at the club, I would say even more so given the financial restrictions in the transfer market since the move to the Emirates Stadium. A cheque book manager would be many fans favourite choice
Another day goes by and the real deal gets closer, its terrible isn’t it? The international period makes you wish your life away, at least today we have some news to share, read and debate. Days like yesterday are just painful and dull when it comes to writing about Arsenal.
I shall start with the boss, we have had countless rumours that Wenger will be picking the man to replace himself once he hangs up his note pad and statistics chart *couldn’t think of another alternative to boots* and he has finally come out and given his opinion on that subject.
Wenger said:
I have a very strong relationship with this Club, I always believe the most important thing in the Club is that everybody does what he is paid for and not the rest.
‘If they consult me I will give an opinion but I certainly will not name the next manager because that’s not my job and I wouldn’t like to do anything other than my job. When I leave this Club one day I would like to leave it in fantastic shape and give the [new] manager an opportunity to do better.
‘[I want to] leave a team behind that has potential, not a team where nobody is there anymore.’
And that is about right isn’t it? It is not Arsene Wenger’s job to appoint a manager, that is not what has made him the professional he is today, he is a coach, a very good coach at that but it is not his job to do everything there is to do at the club. I am sure the board will lean on him when the time comes. After all this is Arsene Wenger’s project and being the longest serving manager in our history he may just have a good idea about which person would suit taking over the position.
It will be one of the most important decisions in our clubs long history. Arsene Wenger has done an amazing job at the club, I would say even more so given the financial restrictions in the transfer market since the move to the Emirates Stadium. A cheque book manager would be many fans favourite choice, at least the fans who are not content with Wenger’s work over the last four or so years. In my opinion this type of manager would destroy all the work that has been put in place.
We would need someone to come in with the same vision as Arsene, someone who can coach young players, someone who can bring out the best in players, install confidence in them and someone who wants to play attacking, passing football. Easier said than done ey?
At the same time it is the board who have to make the decision just as they did when an unknown Frenchman came in thirteen years ago.
There is an interesting Your Vision article about Arsene Wenger that I will put up later this afternoon or evening so make sure you take a look.
Top of the Wenger, Arsenal player praise list is William Gallas. Many have put his great form down to the arrival of Thomas Vermaelen but I think it is more than that. The form of the young Belgian has helped but we forget that his form at the end of last season before his unfortunate injury was fantastic. He was a major reason why the defence tightened up during our unbeaten run.
This season he has knuckled down, looked in great shape and has already developed a good defensive understanding with Vermaelen.
Wenger said:
“William Gallas has had a fine start to the season, which is down to both his attitude and the quality of the player, It can happen that any player has highs and lows in his career, but I must say his form now is a consequence of the way he behaves every day. He behaves 100 per cent as a professional and is highly focused in training.”
The fitness of William Gallas is key this season, I am unsure as to whether we can cope with long term injuries to both Gallas and Djourou. I suppose that depends on which Senderos shows his face.
Former great Patrick Vieira has ruled himself out of a move to Arsenal in January. In fact he has ruled himself out of any move in January.
Vieira said:
“Nothing will happen in January. But I will leave Inter in June and I have yet to decide whether to play in the Premier League or in the French league.”
I didn’t’ think that Vieira would rejoin us but I did come round to the idea of having our former captain back at the club. If he does not make it back by January then he will not come back to Arsenal, not as a player anyway.
I would like to know what Wenger will do when Song goes to the ACN and if Denilson is sidelined for any amount of time during that period. Those two missing would surely upset the balance. It could be argued that you need both of those players in the side to get the correct balance at present.
Fingers crossed that it doesn’t come to that and Denilson and slot back into the position that Song is occupying so well right now. Denilson is a different player to Song and will not bully the opposition or win a great deal in the air when filling in for one of the center backs but make no mistakes Denilson will add his own strengths which will benefit us in certain games, especially home games when we need to intercept the ball quickly and start attacks.
The Denilson, Cesc and Nasri trio is a very exciting midfield against teams who want to sit back and not provide much going forward. I have a sneaky feeling that the bus parkers will soon learn their lesson. You cannot sit back and not expect Arshavin, Van Persie, Cesc, Eduardo, Vela, Walcott, Nasri, Rosicky etc not to score against you.
Righty-o. I’m gone, back later.
