I would not be too worried about Frimpong starting as long as he has experience around him, experience that will drop back and support him when we do not have the ball. I am hoping that Abou Diaby can make it in time for the game, his ability to win the ball, along with his natural tendency to get forward will give Frimpong a nice balanced partner. The only problem concerning Diaby is that he often needs a few games to get into decent form. Cesc is the kind of player who can come back in without football and perform
As the days go by I begin to think more and more about Sunday’s game. With Arsenal’s injury record of late, I look forward to the beginning of the season when it is often the few chances I get to see the whole squad fit at the same time. As the weeks and months go by we usually begin to collect casualties along the way.
This time round we are facing problems in our strongest area of the squad. Midfield.
Cesc Fabregas is unlikely to be ready in time according to Arsene as he flies off to Meheeco with his blabber mouthed chums in the Spanish squad. He hasn’t kicked a ball for us since the world cup yet he is going back to do just that for Spain. I find that somewhat frustrating, especially given the fact that he has played very little football since his leg injury against those cretins.
Alex Song, Abou Diaby and Denilson have not taken part in any of our pre season games so far and remain doubtful for Anfield. Denilson did not go to the world cup while Diaby and Song returned some time ago from their world cup adventures, so it is doubly frustrating why they all seem to be carrying these muscular injuries.
I am sure that at least one of those players will be back in time to play on Sunday and one should be enough. I have heard that Emmanuel Frimpong could be in line to make his Premier league debut come Sunday afternoon and I could also see that happening. Overall he has been very impressive during the pre season and his physical stature makes him more than suited to the rigours of top level football, he still needs work in other areas such as positional play and ball composure but I am sure that will come in time.
Cesc is the kind of player who can come back in without football and perform, probably because most of his game is in his head while Diaby is more of a dribbler who needs to fine tune his game.
I think and hope that Emmanuel Eboue starts on the right of the attack which might be a little controversial but his form is very good at the moment and his defensive attributes could be suited to a team like Liverpool away and an Arsenal side that has an 18 year old possibly making his debut.
Without wanting this to sound like a match preview, this is the line up that I am guessing could possibly take to the pitch on Sunday.
I may well be jumping the gun here though, we have a small matter of a very well timed, incredibly important financially lucrative round of international friendlies to look forward to just before the start of the season. When that finishes then I can readjust the line up with to include the likes of Miquel, Cruise, Nordtveit and Henderson.
I may just sit here until Sunday and pray that our players come back without any injuries. WHAT STUPID TIMING!! (I hope the capitals emphasised my annoyance)
Interesting that Barcelona are apparently making moves for Ozil at a stupidly low price. Although Ozil has denied that he is currently talking to anyone. but if Barcelona were to buy Ozil, would they have a need to come back sniffing Cesc’s backside next summer? Probably. They would want to do it just to free Cesc from his Arsenal prison I guess. I am tempted to talk about Xavi’s latest comments but this is a family blog and I have to keep it clean so I will pass.
Samir Nasri is keen to shake off the ‘kids’ tag and show that we mean business this season.
Nasri said:
“I don’t know a lot of teams who are capable of spending several months without six key players.
“We managed without Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas, William Gallas and Andrey Arshavin for periods last season, but if we produce the goods this season then perhaps people will stop calling us kids!”
Shhh don’t talk about our best players being out at a crucial time at the same bloody time because it doesn’t suit Stan Collymore, Adrian Durham, Mark Lawrenson and all the rests agenda. We have to keep our players fit this time. Hopefully the new satellites system that is strapped to the players bras will make a difference at some point and could prevent a serious problem or two.
I am certainly liking Samir this season, he looks ready to take on the world. He will score at Anfield, I told you. He will run the show and make Joe Cole look like an amateur. He has Rocky’s eye of the tiger at the moment and he will give many teams the knock out punch. Cheesy but true.
Eduardo scored on his Shakhtar Donetsk debut, glancing in a cross at the near post. Well done to him, I hope he goes on to have a fantastic career. A great and humble guy. He has reflected on his time at Arsenal with fondness. He said it was difficult for him to leave Arsenal but needed to play football. He also doesn’t want to play against us in the Champions League which is exactly how I feel. You just know he would score against us with his first half chance, slotting past Given/Hart/Reina/Schwarzer/Almunia/Fabianski/Eboue. Actually cross off Eboue, he would dive to his left, scoop it up and launch a bending punt up field into the top corner of the Donetsk goal.
Nacer Barazite is off to Rangers for a trial that could earn him a season long loan. I don’t think I would be much of a scout. Whenever I have watched Barazite, I have seen a very accomplished and talented footballer who could make the grade at most clubs. He hasn’t really had a sniff of the first team. I hope he proves me right, just so I can think I am a good football manager scout.
Before I go, I would like to pass on some information from a Gooner who has just had his season ticket through. Unfortunately for him, he is stuck in Liverpool (poor guy) studying. He doesn’t want to pass up the opportunity of having a season ticket so he would like to rent it out. He wants face value for it. What is face value? Ask him and find out. Contact me via arsenalvision[at]gmail.com and I will get you in touch with the owner.
Just a reminder to say that the contact pages (Contact us and Your Vision) are still not working so contact via the email address provided above.
The new look Arsenal Vision should be up and running a week or two after the season starts so the contact pages should be in full use again.
Back tomorrow.
