give me Suarez, Fellaini and Fabregas and I’ll be content.” In the same way I used to say, “I want a Ferrari 360, but I want to retro-fit the bonnet with pop-up flame throwers and a roof-mounted water cannon to cut through crowds. I’ve always been practical like that.” This summer you can’t tell me it’s not gone outlandish. And there’s only one person to blame. OK then, Ivan what was the deal? When it comes to arrivals we’ve been getting by on sausages just fine lately – high-quality Toulouse sausages

Thus far this summer, the only addition is Sanogo, a talented U20 French NT forward. Despite this sole addition, one should also look at key departures; Squillaci, Santos, Djourou, Denilson, etc. A whole list of players that have clogged up the books for some time are now gone, with a few more to follow. This shows you that the club is undergoing a “trimming of the fat” that was much needed but also paramount so that big signings could take place.

Since it became apparent that the club were trying to sign Suarez, people have been out in force trying to excuse his past and in particular this issue involving Evra – a player who is hardly an angel himself and certainly not one that elicits much sympathy given his own chequered past. Be it fighting stewards, the crass ‘men and boys’ comments aimed at our players or his shocking unprofessionalism during 2010 World Cup. Even on this occasion, the Frenchman’s initial alleged “your sister’s pussy” comment means he hardly comes across as whiter than white if you can excuse the terminology. Nevertheless, none of that means he deserves to be racially abused. Of course, it would be ridiculous to even try and compare Suarez to Zimmerman. The striker has not killed anybody.

The transfer window is upon us again, we have seen our rivals spend big, better their squad and we are left with only one signing, a signing our fans hardly acknowledge. Well, he is young, what can he offer to better our chances in the league? I get the angle our fans are coming from, we as fans haven't seen triumph since the year 2005, when we beat UTD in the FA Cup final via penalties. We want that back but in wanting that back we throw 'common sense' out the window, me included. We have gone in for Higuain, reportedly agreed a deal with said player, agreed a fee with Madrid and then just when you think the overall deal will click, Madrid go on to shift goal-posts and ask for more. Dick Law, Ivan Gazidis and Arsene Wenger have been bashed

Diaby could have been one but he is one we can’t rely on hence his switch of squad number. I’m a big fan of Arteta and the role he plays for us, and I’ve searched far and wide and I can’t come up with a name that would do it better, the players close to his level or better(there are a few) are all attached to top clubs. Arteta plays as our deepest midfielder and our play is based on him, his role is called a deep lying player maker, a role Pirlo has made us understand and love. Calls for us needing an out and out defensive midfielder

Suarez is quick, nimble, nifty, creative and can play across the front 3 with relative ease. The playing across 3 different positions is what tickles me. We play a 4-2-3-1 formation and Suarez is one that can lead the line, play on either flanks and can also play in the hole just behind the main striker. That’s one stone, 4 birds and my word, that’s fantastic. I’m a sucker for industry and a Suarez-type is what offers that. Another attribute I love about a Suarez-type player is the ability to create goals for themselves and not have to wait for supplies from their supporting cast. Last term I saw Suarez do that a lot and it showed the sort of player he is. Without him, Liverpool would

After watching the wonderful Eight Years Of Memories video (and if you haven't yet done so then what on earth are you waiting for) I had to make an audacious swoop to land him at Arsenal Vision HQ, well this is the silly season after all. Luckily @FrenchFinesse accepted and is now to be part of the Arsenal Vision team for the coming up and coming season. He is a very level headed Gooner and is a great follow on Twitter so if you are not yet following then please do so (see above link)

Arsenal or Arsene or Ivan as well where the selling club can change its mind at the last minute and decide "Ok, we want more money" or the same can be done by a player or his agent and things can go back to negotiations. Sometimes clubs care about perception and PR so they can stall and sit on a move that is outgoing until they can secure someone or just appear like they've been strong enough to delay something inevitable. All of these factors add to the perception and this little video of Tim Payton

There are some people saying that if we are to really challenge for the title next season, Arteta may have to move aside and that we should go out and buy a replacement. To an extent, I understand where they are coming from as he is only getting older and he is not the midfield ‘hard man’ it is widely thought we need. However, I simply don’t believe we would be in the position to go out and spend on a replacement or anyone else of top quality for that matter, if it weren’t for Mikel Arteta’s pivotal role, both on and off

Everyone was going mental last summer and in January, calling for us to sign a proper defensive midfielder. We didn’t. Maybe Coquelin was earmarked as that man, or maybe Wenger just didn’t feel we needed one. I do feel we need little bit steel in the middle of the park though, and would like to see us bring in a proper midfield presence, whether he’s an all-out defensive midfielder or not. Fellaini would be great, but I assume he’ll be following Moyes to United. Playmaker-wise
