Arsene Wenger has admitted that he made a mistake by playing Adebayor upfront on his own in a 4-5-1 formation as it isolated him and we didn't look as dangerous as we have all season.
What I found baffling was the amount of times Adebayor was pulling out wide and dropping into deep positions because it meant that we had no focal point up front
The travelling Gooners were in good voice, they knew that Anfield is always a good indicator of how the season turns out. Our last league victories there have come in title-winning seasons, and given our recent form a win was more than a possibility. The Scouser in our ranks had said before the game that listening to You’ll Never Walk Alone would move him to tears
The way he took his second goal was very Michael Owen, not Henry as the press have been talking about. There is no doubt that Theo can score goals, he is a natural finisher. He looks at the goal keepers position before placing the ball unlike Adebayor.
Like I have said before, I don't think that Adebayor and Van Persie are suited partners, I don't think they get the best out of eachother, they don't click. At the moment the form of the team means that this is not a problem. Both players are scoring separate goals right now
Lassana Diarra has wonderful technique and balance. His height and build makes him very difficult to knock off the ball. Many times against the Newcastle midfield Diarra would have the ball at his feet under pressure and dummy his man one way and twist away from the opposition.
Cesc is now showing that he can score goals. He was making good runs and getting into goal scoring positions but it wasn't happening for him. Arsene said that he showed a video of all the chances that Cesc got last season and now Fabregas has corrected the issue.
On the pitch, we are in relatively rude health. Whatever people say about the strengths and weaknesses of the squad, there is no doubting that it already has a different feel to it than last season. It’s a kind of backs-to-the-wall, siege mentality vibe, a ‘thou shalt not bully us’ modus operandi. We’re giving as good as we get in terms of physicality, and I like it.
When Eduardo spins and runs off the opposition centre half will Van Persie spot him and give him the pass he wants? Or will Van Persie only be thinking of hitting it hard into the net?
Jens Lehmann is still the best goalkeeper at the club, but obviously that's only when in form. Jens will have to play the percentages until he can get some form back. No more playing one-two's with our back four. He will have to concentrate for 90+ minutes even if our team is winning 4-0 (Haven't seen that for ages!)
