The situation is as follows. We have four center backs. Two are new players and are unlikely to be sold after their first season at the club, the other is the best center back at the club but is injured, the other is soon to be the best center back at the club, Johan Djourou. Can you add a fifth center back? What are you going to do with a Gary Cahill when everyone is fit?
We are so involved in the season and all the drama that goes with it, that it is quite difficult to remember how impressive he was in those games. Physically imposing, a fantastic strong tackler and powerful engine. I have no doubt that had he stayed at the club as apposed to being farmed out on loan then he could have made quite an impact on the Carling Cup and FA Cup games at least. He could have turned into a very able deputy to Alex Song in the first team, especially alongside his buddy Jack
Carlos Vela is being chased by Bolton's Owen Coyle for a loan move and that would be a fantastic solution for everyone. We saw how much it helped Jack Wilshere and if it can have a similar effect on Vela then he will be pushing for a place in the team next season. However he does not produce or develop on loan then he may have to seek pastures new. Whenever I think of Bolton I cannot help but think of the dirty, lump it long side under Samantha Allardyce. The Bolton of today play some very nice football at times. I think Vela would work very well with the likes of Lee, Petrov, Taylor, Elmander etc I think many of the Gooner faithful have been a little harsh on Vela. I see a very talented (slightly one sided player) who is still learning his game but more importantly hasn't really had a run of games
Merry Christmas to all Gooners out there to those who celebrate and to those who don't I hope you are hopefully enjoying a few days off to recuperate before the new year. I am off to the in-laws today so there will be no normal blog as I have plenty of eating and drinking to do and as we all know time is very much of the essence, I am sure you understand. I would like to take the time to thank all the Gooners out there, especially the Visionaries who regularly read and comment on my ramblings.
This isn't to say that all big money buys end up as flops because that is clearly not the case. It does however mean that you cannot be guaranteed to be a success just because you pay over the odds. The player you have is what is important and not the price on his head
I have a bit of a funny feeling with Arsenal at the moment. We have yet to hit our stride so far and it is after the Christmas period that we will need to start getting our game together. We have been doing just enough to win our games and playing well in patches until we do not give
