'Pace, power and passion’, the failure of English football, and the ‘anti-Arsenal’ media

I wonder whether that sensation of an ‘anti-Arsenal media’ is less down to Spurs and Man U supporting producers and editors (as the conspiracy theorists always tell us) and more down to the simple fact that the media is full of pundits and journalists who worship at the altar of old-fashioned English footballing values, seemingly oblivious that they are exactly the values that hold us back. Wenger, by bemoaning dangerous, ‘tough’ tackling, by prizing technique over power, by taking an educated, cosmopolitan attitude to football, represents everything that they have been taught to hate, but everything that we need to embrace if we are to win a major tournament

The 25 Gps Suarez Cannonball

give me Suarez, Fellaini and Fabregas and I’ll be content.” In the same way I used to say, “I want a Ferrari 360, but I want to retro-fit the bonnet with pop-up flame throwers and a roof-mounted water cannon to cut through crowds. I’ve always been practical like that.” This summer you can’t tell me it’s not gone outlandish. And there’s only one person to blame. OK then, Ivan what was the deal? When it comes to arrivals we’ve been getting by on sausages just fine lately – high-quality Toulouse sausages

Will current Suarez bid be enough? & Magic Cazorla returns

Cesc Fabregas. I say overall game because Cesc's defence splitting passes sent shivers down my spine, but that aside, Santi is far more fun to watch. The way he gets out of tight spaces with his little speedy feet is a sight to behold. Does anybody look more graceful when they spray the ball across the pitch with a pass? It looks even more enjoyable when it is done with his 'weaker' foot.

Your Vision – Suarez the Pros and Cons as a Player

Suarez is a different style of player to both of these two but has a skill set that I believe would excel in the role. He is quick, an excellent dribbler, strong on the ball and excellent movement off it; his ability to drop off would be torture for centre backs who would not know whether to play a high line or drop deep and let him come on to them. His unpredictability also ensures that both centre backs need to play close together incase he beats one; this could be hugely beneficial for someone like Walcott who could exploit the space in between full back and centre back if they can strike up an understanding, something that I feel could happen given how quickly Sturridge and Suarez linked up at Liverpool.

Your Vision – Arsenal’s Bac-man:A tribute to Bacary Sagna

Sagna is a refreshing change from the current generation of footballers whose wild partying ways make Page 3 news on almost a daily basis. His  down to earth and humble manner have earned him much praise from fans and he remains a firm favourite with the Arsenal faithful.  When his brother Omar passed away in 2008 Sagna was scheduled to feature in Arsenal’s crucial knockout game in the Champions League versus the mighty AC Milan at home in the San Siro. The task was daunting enough for Arsenal as no English team have ever beaten Milan on the hallowed grounds of the San Siro. Despite his grief Sagna played the game and Arsenal went on to record a famous win. Such is the devotion of the player to the game that even in the face of adversity he looks it head on and conquers it.

Best to look at actions rather than words & A glance at the squad at present

In other news Jose Mourinho has spoken of his new love affair and respect with Arsene Wenger since he has left the Premier League. I did wonder why he danced around the chance to put the boot into Arsene and Arsenal during his first press conference back. One journo fed him a loaded question about Arsenal not winning a trophy during his time away but he declined the invitation when he previous he would have jumped all over us before the question was even asked. It is all well and good now, but the true test will be when the season kicks off and if we manage to be in and around them. Hopefully above them, and in fact everyone else. That would be nice.

The Chronicles of Summer – Arsenal Set to Spend

Thus far this summer, the only addition is Sanogo, a talented U20 French NT forward. Despite this sole addition, one should also look at key departures; Squillaci, Santos, Djourou, Denilson, etc. A whole list of players that have clogged up the books for some time are now gone, with a few more to follow. This shows you that the club is undergoing a “trimming of the fat” that was much needed but also paramount so that big signings could take place.

Higuain and Suarez are not like for like & Old Suarez thoughts

Personally I would have preferred we spent £40m+ on another striker. Who? I do not know, honestly I couldn't tell you but I disagree with those who say, why spend £40m on Suarez when we could offer that for Higuain. They are not like for like players, they have different skill sets, they give the team different strengths. The idea of Higuain tucking away chances in the penalty area got me excited

Red, White & Black – Why I can't accept Suarez

Since it became apparent that the club were trying to sign Suarez, people have been out in force trying to excuse his past and in particular this issue involving Evra – a player who is hardly an angel himself and certainly not one that elicits much sympathy given his own chequered past. Be it fighting stewards, the crass ‘men and boys’ comments aimed at our players or his shocking unprofessionalism during 2010 World Cup. Even on this occasion, the Frenchman’s initial alleged “your sister’s pussy” comment means he hardly comes across as whiter than white if you can excuse the terminology. Nevertheless, none of that means he deserves to be racially abused.  Of course, it would be ridiculous to even try and compare Suarez to Zimmerman. The striker has not killed anybody.

Is the Bernard to AFC real? & The difference between summer 2012 & 2013

We are being linked with Brazilian wonderkid Bernard and I think we should be signing him for his name itself. I gets the feeling that there is something in this. It follows a familiar pattern of an Arsenal signing. Being linked with many players in the press for a while, usually really obvious names like Scott Dann or Chris Samba. But then whispers to come out from a source in that players country that a deal is close. Arsene then twists the question about the interest. Like 'that report is not
