It would have taken very little for Wenger to rouse the fan base this summer and give them a season to truly look forward to. It is potentially the last season Arsenal fans will enjoy/endure (delete as applicable) under Arsene Wenger; and whilst there can be no doubt that supporters have enjoyed tremendous success under the French manager, the club has grown stale under his management. There was enough potential within the club and the summer break to rouse the endorphins and feel-good temperament of the club’s followers. In fact, the signing of Xhaka and the attempted signing of Vardy hinted at a proactive Wenger, a change of strategy, as a more aggressive style of player was sought. Additionally, the simple action of getting business done early signalled a possible last hurrah for Monsieur Wenger. But optimism soon turned to satisfaction

The centre back pairing is one of the obvious and it was no surprise to see the experienced Gabriel start the game. new boy Rob Holding was the chosen one to partner the Brazilian. The midfield combination was also of much interest. It seems as if Arsene is looking to start Coquelin alongside Xhaka in the first game of the season. Without going back through the games, I think Coquelin has played whenever Xhaka has. Given that Xhaka is the deepest of the midfielders it leaves Coquelin in somewhat of a box to box role and I am not quite sure how much I like the idea of that

If he turns it around I will be surprised and chuffed to bits because I do not understand the anger generated his way by Arsenal fans. The need for a scapegoat is one that I do not subscribe to myself. With Mathieu Flamini and amazingly Mikel Arteta gone from the club, I guess there needs to be a new poster boy, and Theo is in the right place at the right time for that role

Many Arsenal fans may have heard whispers of Iwobi’s talent, they may have seen him first hand playing for the under 21s, they may even have heard that he is the nephew of Bolton Wanderer’s hero Jay Jay Okocha. But few would have expected the young Nigerian to take his first team chance last season with such coolness. As Wenger lost Oxlade Chamberlain to injury and continued to lose faith in the somewhat bemused Joel Campbell, Iwobi was offered the chance to impress. And impress he did. Performances and output were both of a high standard and glimpses of a partnership with the unfortunate Danny Welbeck seemed to be growing

Koscielny was paired alongside both Rami and Umtiti throughout the tournament, with Umtiti looking the more suitable of the pair. The French debutant won an average of 3.2 aerial duels throughout the tournament compared to a solid but uninspiring 2 from the taller and more experienced Rami. Koscielny won a fairly impressive 2.9 aerial duels but where the Arsenal defender differs from his partners is that he made and attempted far more interceptions. That Koscielny attempted and made more interceptions will come as no surprise to Arsenal fans as it has become a signature move of his game; he frequently intercepts passes and attempts to play on

I am going to offer you my best bit of guess work on this. If there is Arsenal interest then we have probably checked to see if the player wants to join by far the greatest team the world has ever seen, and unless he drinks WKD on a regular basis, that answer should obviously be a yes. But either Leicester City are completely unwilling to sell or do not like the prices suggested to them so the whole 'he is staying' line could be being used to force whichever interested parties out there to go away and come back with something more to their liking

In today's Arsenal Vision Post Match Podcast: Elliot (@YankeeGunner), Paul (@PoznanInMyPants) and Tim (@Stillberto) talk transfers or non transfers, the squad and more in this weeks Arsenal Vision podcast

Football whist recognising the undoubted impact of individual brilliance is a team sport. By definition, as repeatedly reiterated by mangers, the chemistry of each group forms the crux of results achieved throughout the marathon spanning the league season. When we purchased Ozil and Sanchez I won’t deny I revelled in the excitement of having players renowned worldwide at our disposal. However, had we purchased Aubamyeng, Verrati, Stones, Koulibaly, Pogba in one transfer window I would’ve been deflated. Yes, we may have been treated to the spectacle of the Arsenal squad jumping in jubilance as they brandished the coveted PL trophy whilst parading in front of euphoric fans atop a bus, yes years of goading by our cocky Chelsea and United supporting mates would instantly be rendered history and indeed our roles may even be reversed

Apparently we managed to fight off competition from a lot of big clubs for his services which is good in many ways. I do not know a lot about him apart from the fact that he is quite rangy with a good passing range. I can't wait to hear someone compare him to Patrick Vieira (again) that will be fun.

He gives you ideas eh? I'd be interested to know what kind of ideas those are. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Arsenal work on their transitional game for next season. I remember Arsène speaking at the end of the season about how good Leicester City were without needing the ball, and how much of a lesson that was to everyone. A player like Kante is vital to that approach. I didn't know he had such an impressive number of interceptions but you can see just how dominant he is on the pitch.
