I thought changes would be made to freshen up the team today but I kinda thought those changes would have to include Alexis and Cazorla who have not looked sharp in recent weeks but the boss has stuck by them today and has made changes in other areas. Oliver Giroud is one of those who look to be firing on empty so it's great to see him rested ahead of Wembley. Koscielny who had flu recently has also dropped out as has Aaron Ramsey. Interesting to see Ospina continue in goal, I have a feeling he will be called upon in the final. Anyway here is to a good performance today.

Our main threat of course is Saido Berahino. Whilst his goal tally is impressive there is much more to his game than just scoring. He can hold the ball up well and his link-up play is also good. It's easy to see why the country's top clubs are 'sniffing' around him. Callum Mcmanaman, if he features, is also capable of causing problems for most teams. We haven't seen a great deal of him since his move from Wigan but in the glimpses we have seen of him he looks to possess pace, skill and trickery, a nightmare for opposition defenders.
Santi Cazorla has got to miss this one, his little legs have worked very hard this season. When his passing range is off then you know Santi isn't mentally or physically at his best. Alexis might need dropping out but Arsène rarely opts to sit him out. One suspects that if the doctors give the oxygen in his bloody the all clear and there are no physical knocks to worry about then he is patted on the bum and sent out for some more non stop chasing around for 90 minutes

The truth is, loyalty doesn’t exist in football and Sterling owes Liverpool nothing. The argument that Liverpool allowed Sterling to play on the biggest stage, to start in their starting line-up whilst other, more experienced players sat on the bench, holds no weight. For if it wasn’t for Sterling’s own ability then Liverpool would not have given him the opportunity. Sterling earned his right to play at that level due to Liverpool’s lack of an alternative and the player’s own progress. His ability and importance to the team should not be used as a tactic against him to stay at the club; this train of thought can only be viewed as a form of emotional blackmail. You could argue that the young Englishman may not have made the progress he did without the help of Rodgers and his backroom staff

With the benefit of hindsight I would have liked to have seen Alexis move centrally as a partner to Giroud, moving someone else on the left and Walcott on the right late on in the game. Chances were not coming frequently enough with our passing alone and it felt like we needed someone to create his own shot in the penalty area, unfortunately Alexis could not do that on the left flank and nobody else in the team has those gifts in tight areas. In the end we were restricted to long range shots from Özil and Cazorla (I really hate wasted long range shots killing moves) as well as half chances from Gibbs, Özil and Giroud

Yeah, I'm still very confident that we'll win. Perhaps some players would benefit from being rested on Sunday and that time off will help them freshen up. Plus we've already put 8 past Villa this season and last weekend showed that even with their new manager they're still capable of being worse than dreadful

I fully expect the pattern of the game to be very similar to our recent home game against Swansea City. But it will be down to us to open them up and score the first goal. Against Swansea we started the game far too slowly, our passing was laboured and there was not enough movement to shift them out of position. Quite possibly it was our most boring half of the season so far. Had we started the first half

I wasn't too worried about our lack of shots in the first half, we are not a team that take speculative shots, instead preferring to carve out 1 or 2 high percentage chances instead of 8-10 shots straight down the middle into the keepers arms. As bad as we played in that first half we were very close to having a couple of those clear cut chances. Phil Jones producing one amazing bits of improvisation as he fell to the ground heading the ball against Giroud's boot and into the grateful arms of David de Gea, without that intervention, Giroud was clean through against the keeper
