Post Match Q&A

Newcastle (h) “Özil is just mesmerising…” – Q&A

Man of the match was between Santi and Ozil for me. I'll have to go with Santi, he buzzed around the final third speeding up and switching the play stretching Newcastle. His delivery for the first was impeccable, something we don't see enough of. Pleased for Ozil after taking some stick recently, to come back with a goal and an assist, top quality. The aforementioned Mesut Özil. He dazzled whenever he got the ball in the final third. There's a lovely vine going around of him selling Gouffran a dummy in the first half before going in the other direction. He made a few runs beyond the back four, which was nice to see - he'd busted a gut to get alongside Giroud and wanted the ball earlier for the goal itself.

Hull City (a) “Every midfielder in the academy should be provided tapes of Aaron Ramsey” – Q&A

It was great to have them both back in the team. I was a bit worried about Özil coming straight back into the starting lineup but he seemed to cope ok & the big advantage of getting the job done early is that you can rest players earlier than normal. Both Ramsey & Özil drive the team forward. Having two players who look to move forward whenever they get the ball, rather than passing to the nearest unmarked man, makes a huge difference. They both played through the lines & opened up space, and took up positions between the lines when others were on the ball. It gave us so many options that we haven't had for a while. They also released Giroud into the channels on a number of occasions & he looked happier to make those runs with players in the team

West Ham (h) “Ramsey coming on showed a glimpse of what we are capable of” – Q&A

The man Podolski once again against West Ham coming up with the goods. The second half was a lot better and the intensity of the game rose. We remained solid at the back without them really threatening and created a few decent chances. Both Giroud and Podolski's second half goals were excellent. Giroud's a touch of class and finish. Podolski's second a brilliant blend of team play and once again a power shot into the roof of the net

Manchester City (h) “Cazorla was like a terrier in the middle of the park”- Q&A

Before the game even the most positive of Gooners would have settled for a point. Given our form, morale and injuries, it was less a question of 'if', but of 'how many' Its a great point. We fought hard and fully deserved that draw. With a little more luck or a moment of madness it could have gone either way. But I am happy we could keep a side of City's quality relatively quiet in the second half. Of course we would have loved to see that Podolski effort go in and get all 3.

Swansea City (h) “The midfield looks bereft of creativity and are struggling” – Q&A

Lack of change, really. After news of crisis talks and players being dropped I thought we'd see a rejuvenated side - much like that of Swansea (A) last season - which really was the turning point of that season. You can't account for that horrific own goal (unless you were to suggest that a defensive substitution should have been made rather than Sanogo coming on when we had the lead) but you can say we lacked so much up front; Arteta, Gibbs and Giroud were once again abysmal today. I think we clearly lack pace, despite a good start. Swansea was not a real threat and we seemed to control the game, but without enough conviction. And as usual, we were punished on their first shot on goal, with a defensive mistake. Lack of pace, lack of focus. And even if our second half was better, we were too easily pushed on our toes

Chelsea (a) – “There wasn’t one standout performer either, everyone was equally poor” – Q&A

We had a good opening ten minutes or so against Tottenham but then looked quite shaky, whereas today we were unsteady and lacked any real composure from the get go. There wasn't one standout performer either, everyone was equally poor and the whole setup was a mess. We weren't defensively tight which is how we managed to not concede against Tottenham and we got dispossessed in vulnerable positions

Bayern Munich (a) “I haven’t seen a run that mazy since the ending to the Shining” – Q&A

Koscienly and Mertesacker covered so much ground. My favourite defensive moment was Per's back heel stop, I cheered that more than the goal. Vermaelen will be a sad loss come the summer. He proved how lucky we are to have a 3rd choice centre back of his quality. Sagna made a lot of forward runs but wasn't given the ball, which was very frustrating to watch. Fabianski made some great saves and a wonderful reaction swipe to clear the ball off the line after the penalty. His distribution was very ambitious and positive to see, he really tired to drive us forward. Bravo defence.

Everton (h) – “The man is absolutely magic and we are so lucky to have him” – Q&A

I was at the Stoke game and my overriding feeling was one of the players not being up for the fight. They bottled challenges and, with the exception of Ox when he came on, didn't try and take the game to Stoke. We looked scared and didn't like the robustness of Stoke's tackles (although, having said that, Stoke were at their thuggish best and were lucky to keep 11 men on the pitch. Scumbags.) The Everton game was a complete change. The player were well up for it from the first whistle and took the game to Everton. The selection of Ox was a great call. He just makes stuff happen, he frightens defenders, forces them into mistakes and even when he plays a stray pass he busts a gut to get back and atone for his error. This effort spurred on the other players,
