I am aware of Mannone's abilities but I simply just do not think he should be starting between the sticks for Arsenal yet. We cannot afford to have such an achilles heel in the side, especiallly in the title race
The return of Rosicky and Eduardo as well as the purchase of TV 5 means we have a depth in squad missing from last season. Furthermore, players who had to step up prematurely to the first team due to unforeseen injuries (aren't they all unforeseen)
Arsenal didn't stumble and crumble as they may have before. Although they were less impressive in the second half and Birmingham's defence kept them out for large parts, Van Persie came closest when he crashed a wrongly awarded indirect free-kick against the crossbar
Mannone is third choice, and apart from a couple mistakes has been massive on occasion. against Fulham, i could bet Almunia would have let past a couple goals at least. our fourth choice keeper has been very impressive as well
RVP, Walcott, Ramsey, Bendtner and Vela leave because they would no longer be working with AW. In addition, what about the youngsters who AW always gives chances to develop and play in the 1st team
Almunia has improved his game (slightly IMO) since the 2007/08 campaign; however I still think he needs to progress on all of the above elements in order to become a really top drawer goalkeeper for Arsenal, however I can’t see him doing so
I like Bendtner. He has been hugely criticised by many of our own fans as well as everyone else's, but I think this will be the season when he shows that he is good enough. His touch is excellent and he holds up the ball well
I know that I’m ranting, in fact, I’m frothing at the mouth with rage. So please forgive me. But, there is a purpose for me putting this rant into writing. I’m calling for all Arsenal fans on all forums to unite and to put aside the differences that we’ve had over the last few seasons
Portsmouth are a side in disarray following a bungled takeover bid and two defeats in their opening two matches, but a powerful header from Younes Kaboul gave the visitors hope just before the break
