Hello again,

So we face Villarreal in the quarter finals of ze Champions League, it doesn’t matter who you get drawn to, as soon as you do they suddenly become this irresistible force, but having said that any team that has got to this stage must have done so on merit.

When we were drawn against Roma in the last round I found myself looking out for their results now we have disposed of them I no longer care, I am sure this will be the case against Villarreal.

They certainly have some good players that we will have to look out for. The likes of Robert Pires, Giuseppe Rossi and Marcos Senna will be a danger to us over the two legs but they will certainly have to look out for our players, which should include some much needed injured players.

It will be nice to see Bobby Pires back at Arsenal but hopefully it can be the kind of return that we witnessed when Patrick Vieira came back with Juventus.

Villarreal are currently in the same position that we are in their domestic league. Sitting in 4th place with 37 points they have an average of 1.4 points from 27 games. They have scored 43 goals (av 1.6) and conceded 37 goals (av 1.4)

We currently have an average of 1.9 points from 52 points, we have scored 45 goals (av 1.6) and conceded 26 goals (av 0.9)

Obviously stats can distort the truth in some cases but overall it looks like we are currently doing slightly better than they are.

If we get through against Villarreal we could face Manchester United who have to get past Porto. That would be a mouthwatering encounter but as they say, one game at a time.

I was sat on the train on the way home last night when I flicked on my mobile Internet to check out the latest Arsenal news (modern technology ey?!) and I clicked on the Almunia is fit for Newcastle which was pleasing in itself but to find out that both Cesc and Eduardo were in normal training is a massive relief. Before the Liverpool game at home we would not have imagined what life would be like on the pitch without his passing, his commitment, his attitude.

We have not seen the best of him so far this season but hopefully him coming into an Arsenal team playing well will do him the world of good. Currently Arshavin is creating chances for the team, the rest of the lads are doing a great job but there is still no player who can pick a long range pass like Cesc Fabregas. He will make players around him play better and hopefully we can create more chances in our games than we already do.

Cesc himself has been impressed with the improvement of his teammates without his presence.

“In recent games everyone’s attitude has changed, the players’ and the fans’, and you can see that reflected on the pitch,”

All of the frustration is now turning into enthusiasm for the season – we are also in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and are fourth in the league with nine games to go and a lot of points to win.

There definitely seems to be more fight in games than there was at the start of the season. The main difference has been the development of our younger squad members. The likes of Song, Bendtner and Denilson have improved since the start of the campaign an that has made a big difference. The 17 year old Song against Fulham no longer exists, now we have a powerful striding midfielder who is not only winning tackles and blocks but making a positive contribution to our attacking play.

Next season injuries and rotation will be much smoother than it was this year that’s for sure.

Well, enjoy your Friday. The draw has put me in a good mood, Newcastle previews tomorrow.
