Chelsea Thoughts and Predictions

Almost more than watching his ability on the pitch, I wanted to see Wenger being forced into making a decision. One that we haven’t seen for a while. He would have had to fit Nasri, Cesc, Van Persie, Adebayor and Arshavin into four slots

The Champions League, luckily is starting to take its place in my history instead of being on the forefront of my mind. Hopefully the players are now starting to move on and think about the future. We can take some comfort as small as it may be that our opponents will be doing the very same thing after their damaging exit the day after ours.

So the 4pm clash could be all about who has dealt with defeat better out of the two teams, it could also be about which team wants victory more.

Arsene is still going for 3rd place as we currently stand 6 points behind them, beating Chelsea at home isn’t the real problem. Chelsea’s two fixtures after today are home to Blackburn and away to Sunderland, neither are particularly difficult and add on the fact that we need a victory at that easy ground called Old Trafford then you wouldn’t be castigated for feeling that this hill for 3rd could be a little too steep.

Personally I feel that the goal we should be concentrating on is to keep our unbeaten run going in the league so we can build a platform for the start of next season.

One big disappointment is yet another absence against Chelsea from Russian playmaker Andrey Arshavin, this time his selection is out of the managers hands as he is nursing the flu. Hopefully just the usual version but still he is a major doubt for the game this afternoon.

Almost more than watching his ability on the pitch, I wanted to see Wenger being forced into making a decision. One that we haven’t seen for a while. He would have had to fit Nasri, Cesc, Van Persie, Adebayor and Arshavin into four slots. He may still have positional choices to make as Van Persie will be competing with Cesc for the role of Adebayor’s personal supplier. If Nasri continues in central midfield then what happens to his mates around him?

We shall get some answers tomorrow, but without Arshavin we will have to wait for the rest.

I do not imagine that we will see much in the way of rotation as victory will be the perfect remedy for a bad Champions league exit.

Mean Lean’s Predicted Line Up

Arsene could of course line up as he did against Manchester United at home with Van Persie playing as a left winger / striker with Nasri alongside Song and Cesc pushed further forward, to be honest, that is more likely than anything else but I would like to see us go for it and keep Van Persie in a central position with Nasri as the left sided player.

Mean Lean’s Match Prediction

Arsenal 1 (Nasri) Chelsea 1 (Anelka)

Anything less than victory from our boys would mean kissing goodbye to third place, I am not sure than either team will have enough to give that little bit extra to overcome the other. We are more likely to win the game than Chelsea but I wouldn’t be surprised if we scored first and they score a second half equaliser. It will be interesting to see if Drogba is taken out of the firing line or if he continues to attempt to torment our defenders.
