Daddy Hill-Wood, spending correction & speculation help

You gotta love the old guy, imagine going out with his daughter, dinner at the in-laws would be a frightening experience. I would have loved to have watched Hilly grab the microphone and shoot down some of the aggressive questions

Good afternoon Gooners,

Not that much in the way of news going on right now, the Arsene Wenger to Real stories will not die down just yet. I mentioned yesterday that Arsene Wenger has spent £20 million in the last 5 years, I should have said net spend in the last 5 years but you know what I mean, especially given the fact that his latest purchase was for £15 million. When some say that Wenger should be replaced I struggle to imagine anyone coming in with that sort of outlay and doing a better job. Even if our team was full of 28-32 year olds I would still take my hat off to someone who has spent (net of course) £110 million less than Chelsea.

Our Chairman Peter Hill-Wood has come to the defence of our manager, and is confident of the Frenchman staying with the club.

Hill-Woody said:

“I am not concerned about it, Arsene is here and under contract (until 2011), and I am sure that is how it is going to remain.

“I think he is a big enough man to accept that a few people are not prepared to be reasonable. I think we all have to accept criticism, but you expect it to be reasonably constructive, rather than destructive.”

To be honest, Wenger staying to the end of his contract is not really much of a doubt, a man of his word who has never broken a contract in the past is unlikely to do so now, especially at a club where he has worked wonders. My question to Peter Hill-Wood would have been, is Arsene likely to sign a new long term contract, but that wasn’t asked.

The Chairman did have his say on some of the questioning in last weeks Q&A.

Hilly-Wood said:

“Frankly, some of the questions were quite disgraceful. There you have the most successful manager in our history and two or three of the shareholders made the most negative and somewhat hostile and sarcastic comments, which I think were completely out of order.

“I was very upset by the questions, I have to say. We, and he, kindly agreed to have this meeting and whether we have another one is a moot point.

“Arsene was very diplomatic and honest in his answers and deserves great credit for that. But I wouldn’t have been anything like as polite if they had asked me.”

haha, you gotta love the old guy, imagine going out with his daughter, dinner at the in-laws would be a frightening experience. I would have loved to have watched Hilly grab the microphone and shoot down some of the aggressive questions.

I am pretty pissed off that we didn’t get to watch the whole meeting without and cuts. I have probably missed it but if there is a transcript flying around can you be so kind as to post the link for myself and others who have missed the juicer bits.

The Adebayor to Milan stories are doing the rounds once again, I cannot be bothered to read anything about it so unfortunately I haven’t got any hardcore facts to quote here.

The season hasn’t even finished and already our club is in turmoil again. Wenger’s off, Adebayor is off, Van Persie is refusing to sign a new contract, Walcott is leaving because we haven’t offered him a new… oh yeah, cannot run with that one anymore. Gallas is still in tears about the captaincy being taken away from him. Kolo loves Manchester City and cannot wait to be involved with such an average team. Arshavin is fed up with left wing duties so he is off to the Mancs or Liverpool or anyone of the press’ favourites.

Where is Veloso? I haven’t seen another made up link for a few weeks, The Sun or Tribal football are clearly not doing their jobs very well right now.

I shall give them a helping hand.

Veloso, Hangerland, Barry, Alonso, Inler, Richards, Martins, Benzema, Santa Cruz the list goes on. What I love is when the press decide that we are going to sign player x, many fans then decide that the player in question is the player of his or her dreams. Until the next made up rumour of course.

Anyhoo we will have plenty of time for that when the football is over. I am looking forward to it… not! Although it is always exciting to actually sign players in real life and not just in made up land.

So we have one more set of 90 minutes to go through before the book is closed on the Premier League season. I hope our supporters sing Arsene Wenger’s name loud and clearly through the whole game and the boys can sign off in style with a comfortable victory.

Thats just about that for now, back tomorrow I assume.

Mean Lean.

Back tomorrow.
