Had he connected with his chance efficiently then he would be hailed the hero but as we know football is about margins. An own goal and a miss is enough to condemn a player to the scrap heap by many
Monday afternoon and the Manchester United game is still fresh on the mind of most, including myself. I spoke about the game in my Match Thoughts but during yesterday there were a few things I forgot to mention so I thought I’d bring it up today.
Robin Van Persie continuing from last season showed his new leadership skills by consoling Diaby on the center circle. My impression was that he said something along the lines of lets go up the other end and make amends. Maybe he said nothing of the sort but that is the type of conversation that I thought took place.
It would have been perfect if Diaby managed to finish his chance, great work to get into that position but unfortunately he was on his weaker side and snatched at his shot.
We saw the good and bad in Diaby on Saturday, a gifted powerful footballer with a tendency to give the ball away cheaply. Had he connected with his chance efficiently then he would be hailed the hero but as we know football is about margins. An own goal and a miss is enough to condemn a player to the scrap heap by many.
I still have faith that a run in the team will allow the player to correct his imperfections, his awareness and execution in passing will improve with added games under his belt, but the question is by how much? Only a run in the team and time will give us the answers.
Arsene Wenger also believes that the 23 year old can be a big player for us if he remains clear of injury.
Wenger said:
“If he stays injury free, he can be an athlete and powerhouse, We just have to touch wood and see in the next three weeks if he can get through the games.”
I also wanted to talk about the ever so lovely Manchester United supporters. They are a bloody disgrace. Having the cheek to boo and whistle at Eduardo is one thing when they have watched Ronaldo prancing around the pitch for the last four or so years, but that is just stupidity, I don’t really care about that if it doesn’t effect Eduardo. I am more concerned about how they can sing such disgusting songs about our manager and be allowed to get away with it by their club and by the FA.
As a father of three I truly detest pedophiles and for our manager to be called this for no other reason but to drag the poor bloke through the mud almost as soon as he landed in England is a disgrace to this country. Can you imagine Arsenal fans or the club being allowed to get away with it if we labelled Alex Ferguson with this treacherous insult? Of course bloody not.
Oh and since when do managers get sent off for kicking water bottles? I swear the likes of Martin O’Neill have thrown their bottles to the floor in rage but I guess that is ok. Just the same way that Eduardo is the only player in the history of the game to have gone down easily.
It looks like our manager will be receiving an apology for the stupidity of the fourth official. Wow, someone has well and truly banged their heads.
League Managers’ Association chief executive Richard Bevan said:
“I’ve spoken to Keith Hackett and he fully recognises the situation was an error and an apology will follow to Arsene Wenger. Lee Probert totally failed to manage the situation and created a needless pressure point, taking the focus away from the pitch in a big event with only a minute to go.”
I suppose it was worth it if the media have something else negative to write about so well done Mr fourth official dude. Great work.
Alan Hansen continues to show how little he knows about our team. He has written a piece in the Telegraph about how we need someone like Darren Fletcher.
Fletcher is a box-to-box player, he runs all day and gets up-and-down the pitch. He is competitive, somebody who is prepared to get his foot in, and he is also good in the air.
Put him in an Arsenal shirt, though, and he probably wouldn’t fit into their style of play because Arsène Wenger just wants to play open, attractive football. And that is one of Arsenal’s major flaws.
Excuse me? I don’t suppose he actually watched Everton vs Arsenal game, even though he talked about it later on that evening. He already decided that Everton lost the game because of Lescott. Does he actually know what kind of players Denilson and Song are? Baffling, really is.
We are defending from the midfield probably better than anyone else in this league so far. Yes a few individual mistakes have cost us goals in certain games but Song, Denilson, Cesc, Diaby, Ramsey and Eboue have all put in good shifts for us so far.
I am looking forward to quoting these idiots when they realise that we mean business this year. I was confident before the season started but these five matches have cemented that belief in my mind.
On the subject of Darren Fletcher, Arsene Wenger is not a very happy chappy about the treatment from the United players in the game on Saturday.
“I have seen today a player [Eduardo] who plays only on the pitch, but there are other points that, for me, are more urgent – players who play only to make fouls, who make repeated fouls and are never punished.
“They get out of the game without a yellow card, but I think it is more anti-football than a player who did what Eduardo did. I have seen a player make 20 fouls without getting a yellow card. If you have seen the game, you don’t need me to tell you who but their player gets away without a yellow card. It’s quite amazing.”
“Look at how many deliberate fouls some players make and get away with it. I think that’s a bigger problem because it cuts the flow of the game every time. People come and pay to see football. They do not come to see free-kicks.
Manchester United have been doing this for a few years now. They no longer attempt to match us on the pitch because they are further behind us technically. Before the invincibles they used to attack us, they used to play open football against us, nowadays they flood the midfield and play counter attacking football against us. It has worked on more than one occasion and credit to them but it is down to the referee to referee the game fairly.
Everyone remembers the Jose Reyes game at Old Trafford, this sort of thing hasn’t stopped and will not stop unless we are protected.
You got to love the cheek of Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
Laporta said:
‘I apologise if I bothered Mr Wenger, but he knows perfectly that the case of Cesc Fabregas is special. He is a Catalan player from our youth team and it is not a secret that we love this player.’
Strange apology don’t you think? It is almost like getting caught with someone else’s girlfriend then saying sorry whilst slipping her your phone number.
Our captain is not going to want to join you when we end the season as Champions and ditching your lot out of the Champions League in the quarter finals on route to winning it.
Wow, I have just realised how negative and angry I sound today. Manchester United have that effect on me, I’m afraid.
So the close of the transfer window is creeping up on us. We can expect plenty of movement from many clubs but the question is, will there be any from our club?
I would like to see a player like Alex Song who can cover both in defensive midfield and center back along with an experienced goalkeeper to push both Almunia and Fabianski. Apart from that I am very happy with the state of our squad.
Righto, lunch time, enjoy your day/evening.
Back again tomorrow.
