Goody afternoony to you all,
Appologies for my disappearing act yesterday, Internet connection along with list of stuff to do prevented me from having the time or opportunity to do something, not that you care or anything.
I was thinking the other day about the midfielder issue and the reason why someone hasn’t already joined the club. Perhaps Wenger has already spent his pocket money on Ramsay (5m), Bischoff (wages), Nasri (Hleb deal) and is not allowed to bring anyone else in until we get guaranteed income from the Champions League. Maybe Wenger had a number of targets waiting for the go ahead if Adebayor had left the club but as the £30 million plus didn’t come in he has to sit on his hands until we are guaranteed to make our ends meet.
Is this why Wenger said timing is important when it comes to buying players? Does Wenger have a transfer list of targets with prices on and if we don’t get into the CL then some of those options are crossed off.
It is just a theory of course, I don’t want to lose to FC Twente to find out if that theory is correct.
The midfielder roundabout has now taken a turn from Barry – Alonso – Inler – Annon to Manchester City’s Michael Johnson. Apparently he has rejected a new 5 year contract and wants champions league footie. This is of course a rumour from the Daily Mirror so it could well be a pinch of salt moment.
Joe Cole has been impressed with speed merchant Theo Walcott and has had some nice things to say about his England colleague.
“Obviously Cesc Fabregas is their top player, but I was really impressed with the way Theo Walcott finished the season.
“If people aren’t demanding him to be in the England team, they’re writing him off.
“But I think he’ll develop into a world-class player if people just give him some space to express himself.”
It is such a difference having Walcott compared to Hleb on the right because they bring such opposite qualities to the side. Watching Theo against Ajax you really notice how well Hleb kept possession and continued the teams passing. The ball breaks down at Walcott quite alot, either with him running into opponents or misplacing a pass but what he does give is that penetration that Hleb doesn’t. Teams are scared to hold a high line against him because he can outstrip practically anyone in the world. Walcott also acts as our third striker which will add at least 15 goals next season if he stays fit.
I am really excited about Theo this season, I believe he will be our secret weapon.
Robin has been talking away freely about our Champions League opposition and their new English manager.
Van Persie said. “They are really happy with him and almost proud to have him, because it was quite a strange move to come from being England manager to Twente. But Holland is very proud, especially Twente, and they are all saying they really like his style of coaching.”
McClaren strikes me as a coach who sees himself as a bit of a tactician and that is all we need in such a difficult game. I was hoping to face a side who would try and play us man for man and try and play football against us. McClaren is almost certainly going to try and stifle us and stop us playing our game. I expect Arsenal to have to deal with plenty of longer passes into channels and in between our defenders, especially after Friday’s Ajax match.
Van Persie said:
“If we don’t win two games then we play Uefa Cup. But Arsenal always want to play the Champions League. We have the pre-season games under our belts and we are ready.”
The thought of UEFA cup football is quite scary really. That is just too close to Spurs for my liking.
Has anyone seen the new Respect da ref advert, sponsored by The 7th Chamber? It is pretty funny. It is hard to know if Steve Claridge’s voice is put on or not.
Who’d want to be a ref anyway? All that stomping around, shouting and getting angry – and that’s from the players and supporters.
So what happens when an amateur star-studded football team tries to play 11-a-side without a ref?
About the same as what happens to any football game played without a ref – chaos and farce.
Have a good day. Drop your view in the comments.
Until tomorrow.
