The last player you want to see running at you in the 70th minute is Theo Walcott, that is a big hand that Wenger has and he can call on that hand whenever he likes
For some strange reason, today feels like a Friday. I have no idea why that is but I have to keep reminding myself that it is still the beginning of the week and not the end.
There isn’t that much going on in the world of Arsenal, most of the news is about our upcoming clash with Roma, I guess it should be.
There has been much talk from the Roma camp about them dominating us etc but I have no fear about this game. Normally games as big as this strikes fear into me and my nerves are on edge. I suppose there is still time for that but I know that if we play the way we did in Milan (including Inter), Juventus, Roma (Thierry hat trick), Madrid then we should have enough to progress. Having said that we will only have enough if we can apply ourselves the right way, closing down quickly, organise ourselves defensively and pass and move like we know we can. I think our success against Italian teams in the last few years is down to our speed of tempo, the Italian league is slower than ours and they are not used to the jump in pace.
I am still trying to work out what kind of team Wenger will play and I am stumped. A few weeks ago the team picked itself but now that most of the squad have found form and injuries have almost cleared up, suddenly Wenger has more at his disposal.
Kolo Toure is fit enough to make the trip as we expected, it is nice to have the Kolo of old back on board, I have always had the feeling that he was being taken over by someone else. I am sure that the exorcism worked a treat.
Young Feo, has been talking about his shoulder and his urge to be clattered.
Walcott said:
“I still haven’t experienced getting clattered yet, so that’s the next test. Even though it sounds weird, that will definitely be good for me.
“In training you obviously don’t want to injure your own players, so you tend to be a little softer. But match days are totally different.”
I cannot imagine that Walcott will start in Rome but he certainly is a major threat to them from the bench. The last player you want to see running at you in the 70th minute is Theo Walcott, that is a big hand that Wenger has and he can call on that hand whenever he likes.
If the score is goalless or we are winning out there then Roma will have to push forward and leave spaces at the back, Theo is an excellent exploiter of space, if they let him get through then its good bye from him because you cannot catch him.
The papers are doing their very best to inject some negativity into Arsenal once again, I suppose they were finding it difficult to criticise our displays on the pitch now so they have turned back to Adebayor.
Ade was interviewed recently where he said that he was chased by Barcelona and Milan in the summer, somehow the creative (not) media have managed to put a ‘I may leave Arsenal’ spin on it.
Adebayor said:
“I knew that Milan and Barcelona were interested in me but in the end I chose Arsenal,” Adebayor told The Sun.
“Arsenal are a club that I want to repay with important victories for having allowed me to become one of the great players in world football. I find myself well here, even if, as I say in life, you can never know what will happen in the future.”
I might be mistaken here but it kind of sounds like he is happy at Arsenal and wants to stay. Like I say, I am sure the tabloids have it spot on. Maybe they lead a reverse life, whatever an Arsenal player says just write the opposite.
I am sure those last few words in that quote are not true with every player in the world apart from Adebayor, so the rest of what he says is ruled out. I don’t even know why I am wasting my fingers on this.
Before I go, I just want to alert you to our 67,349,341 link to Sporting Lisbon’s defensive midfield maestro Miguel Veloso. It should get beyond the 70 million mark by the summer.
Enjoy your Friday err Tuesday.
Back tomorrow.
