England appear to have reverted back to type. Lumping balls up to Heskey to hold and then Crouch to flick on as well as looking like a team that have never played together. I would have Joe Cole in the side to play around Rooney
Good afternoon Visioners,
It has been a while since I last sat down to write anything, well at least a while to finish a whole piece. The last few days have been a case of myself running around trying to cram in everyday life along with the world cup. Thank goodness for Sky plus. I have not yet managed a whole live game as yet, I have been watching bits and pieces and then re watching the exciting games in the middle of the night.
The Germans were very entertaining last night and played some wonderful attacking football. I watched some of that German team in the under 21 tournament last year. I agree with many that Mesut Ozil has got a similar style to Jack Wilshere and that could be reason enough for Wenger not to have made a move for the talented playmaker.
Like Wilshere he has an uncanny ability to find passes in tiny gaps around the opposition. A great triangle player and someone who can drag the ball past a player then reverse a pass through to a runner. Jack Wilshere will be at least as good as Ozil. Let us not forget that Ozil is 21 and Wilshere is 18.
England certainly need a player like Wilshere in the middle of the pitch, a player to link up Rooney and Gerrard. A player to take control of the game and make the right pass. After a positive start in Capello’s reign, England appear to have reverted back to type. Lumping balls up to Heskey to hold and then Crouch to flick on as well as looking like a team that have never played together. I would have Joe Cole in the side to play around Rooney. England are already one dimensional without having to leave one of the few multidimensional players on the bench.
The Germans have shown the direction that England need to go and it must start from grass roots level, but we all already know this. Nothing will change until then.
Back to the world of Arsenal, Manuel Almunia is not worried about his position at Arsenal. Judging by the world cup performances of Robert Green, Mark Schwarzer and the Algerian keeper Fouzi Chaouchi, he clearly has nothing to worry about. Clearly Manuel Almunia was not at his best and had a disappointing overall season and I agree that we need a new goalkeeper but I think this shows that the grass is not always greener (no pun intended)
We watch our keepers every week and mainly watch people like Schwarzer on highlights. The truth is, every goalkeeper make errors. We saw how quickly Cech transformed from the worlds best keeper into a liability from crosses.
Squid Boy made a great point via twitter. Goalkeepers from this world cup will not be put under the same problems and situations that we are faced in the Premier League, so jumping up and saying that we should buy player x after a string of breathtaking reflex saves is a little pointless. Stick said player at Stoke City with Rory Delap throw-in’s or at Ewood Park where the opposition team are allowed to foul you.
Wenger has once again slammed the door shut on Cesc leaving Arsenal.
Wenger said:
“I don’t need to talk about Cesc, He has a deal with Arsenal and we don’t want to sell him. I’ve spoken with Fabregas many times – as with all the players in the World Cup – but never about his future.”
But that does not mean the end of the story, I am sure we will hear another 30 stories of Cesc joining Barcelona.
Before I go, I would like to say apologies for the lack of Your Vision articles posted that have been sent in, I have not forgotten about those and shall respond and post live in due course.
Until the next time.
