Gilbert jumped off the train and jogged ahead of the pack. My first thought was that perhaps I should leave it as he looks in a hurry but as I have already psyched myself up and wasted valuable train time
This morning I flicked open my laptop in search of Arsenal news which has been pretty much absent of late, a quick glance around newsnow and I soon realised that nothing new has been published since I checked after football last night, ah well, I guess it will be a case of some more rambling nonsense unless something new comes up before I post my article at lunchtime.
I set on my journey, a little earlier than usual as I have a meeting to attend to, I hate the earlier trains because my impression of a sardine isn’t very impressive, especially with my huge bag strapped onto my back. The doors were set to close until a new flurry of bodies jumped aboard, squeezing us further into the train.
A voice shyly filed our section of the train. ‘Can you move down a bit please’ came the voice from a man desperate to join the squeeze.
I had a double glance at the face, a face that looked familiar. It took me about three seconds to remember where I knew the face. ‘He looks like Kerrea Gilbert’ I thought to myself without wanting to stare too hard. With the joys of modern technology in my pocket, I pulled out my G1 HTC phone and jumped onto Google images. Yep, I was pretty certain it was Gilbert and I wondered if I should have a chat with him. I am not normally one to chase after people who are in the public eye and start talking to them for that reason, I kind of feel it makes me look like a little boy but I thought what the heck, I have nothing to write about and could get some juicy gossip about what is going on behind the scenes at Arsenal.
Whilst I was trying to think of questions that were not the usual boring crap, the train came to a stop, it was the quickest journey of my life. A route that usually takes 15 minutes felt like it took 3.
Gilbert jumped off the train and jogged ahead of the pack. My first thought was that perhaps I should leave it as he looks in a hurry but as I have already psyched myself up and wasted valuable train time thinking of questions I thought I’d jog towards him as he had swapped his jog for a quick walk.
I finally caught up with him.
Mean Lean: Excuse me, Are you Gilbert? [Wasn’t quite sure how to pronounce Kerrea]
Kerrea Gilbert: Yeah
ML: How you doing? [shakes hand]
KG: I’m alright you know
ML: Are you on loan at the moment?
KG: Peterborough, just on my way there now
ML: How is that going?
KG: We lose a lot of games but last week, we done alright.
ML: So do you think you’ll say at Arsenal long term?
KG: I don’t even know yet, we’ll see at the end of the season when my contract runs out
ML: [just getting ready for the juicy questions..
KG: I gotta run and get my train but take it easy
ML: No problem, all the very best
KG: Nice meeting you.
And that was that, I tried the slow build up ready to ask about his thoughts on our season, his experiences in the Carling Cup this season but no, he was off. Perhaps I didn’t brush my teeth hard enough this morning and the morning breath was too much to handle but I like to think that he really did have a train to catch.
Not the exclusive that I was hoping for but hey ho. I’ll have an exclusive with Cesc soon where he vents his anger at Barcelona and states that he wants to end his career at the Gunners. I’m working hard on that one.
Before I go, I would just like to say how sad I am that Ashley Cole is going through a terrible time both on and off the pitch. I feel really sorry for him and am in no way chuckling to myself about how his behaviour has come back to smack him full in the face.
That wouldn’t be very nice would it? [evil laugh]
Back again tomorrow.
