Alot of Gooners are a little uncomfortable with Manuel Almunia being our long term number 1 goalkeeper and I have to admit I fall into that category
There isn’t alot of things more enjoyable than a fried egg and toast sandwich first thing in the morning. What is not quite as enjoyable is hearing Alex Ferguson putting the boot in to our team as often as he can. He has joined the capping foreign player debate.
“It’s certainly not wrong that you should be seen to have a proportion of home-based players,” said Fergie. “I totally agree with that. But it would be a problem for a club like Arsenal.
“That’s why they’ll protest the loudest. Obviously you want to protect your own, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But for the good of the game in England it would be good to see more home-based players at the top clubs. United’s critics would say: ‘It’s all right for you, you already have English players in your side.’ But I think if you asked a neutral, they would rather see more home-based players.”
I’d love to see your ‘English’ side in a few years when Giggs, Scholes, Neville retire. I suppose it is a compliment to hear Ferguson talking negative about us, it means we are doing something right and we are a threat to him and his dirty little team.
Alot of Gooners are a little uncomfortable with Manuel Almunia being our long term number 1 goalkeeper and I have to admit I fall into that category, although he has done well in many games so far. But we all know that Almunia is capable of making bad mistakes that he shouldn’t make. Well Arsene has been talking about him and it seems to me as if it is a case of last chance Manuel.
“I believe in sticking with one goalkeeper,” he said. “You cannot tell him: ‘No matter how many mistakes you make, you’ll always be my goalkeeper.’ But you have to give him at least two games.
“Lehmann was injured and Almunia has done extremely well since then for 10 games on the trot. I didn’t want to disturb the side and until now, he has done very well.”
Very interesting quotes from the manager there. Would he say something like that to Kolo Toure if he made mistakes against Manchester United? Nope. If Arsene waiting to put Lehmann back in the side without making it unfair to Almunia?
It is a difficult one really because I don’t think Jens Lehmann deserves to play for Arsenal again after his comments and attitude. But is Lehmann a better keeper? As Gary Stevens would say ‘Without Doubt!’
Champions League week this week and we travel to Slavia Prague in need of a point to get into the knock out stages. I expect a much harder game than the 7-0 (obvious really, I guess) as easy as we cut them open at The Emirates, they actually looked like a decent team on the ball and have some good ball players. I still expect us to win the game but I think it will be a 1-0 / 2-1 type of score line.
Arsene Wenger may rotate his team a little as they have had two massive games in two weeks and need freshening up somewhat. Trying to predict any sort of lineup is pretty pointless as we have no idea who if anyone will be rested. I would expect Gilberto to come in for Flamini and maybe Eduardo and Walcott could be handed starts. Wenger will not make wholesale changes though as he knows getting at least a point is vital, he wouldn’t take that for granted.
Robin Van Persie is on his way back to full fitness which is fantastic news. Arsene said that he will be back after the International break. I think it may take him a few matches to get back to his range and his normal game though so we may have to wait a little longer before we see him dummy someone and smash it past the opposition keeper.
David Dein has been trying to justify foreign take over in the Guardian this morning.
“I have not come across one who is in the game for anything other than the love of the sport,” Dein said, speaking at the International Football Arena conference in Zurich. “They are not there to rape the clubs. They are investors.”
David? I have a question for you.. Why exactly do investors, invest in something?
ok, I am off to take part in this day today. Hope you enjoy taking part in your day.
