As far as weekends go without Arsenal playing a part, it wasn’t too bad now was it? I had penciled in a Tottenham defeat a few weeks ago when I looked at the remaining fixtures, when Vertonghen slammed in his second to put them 2-1 up I thought the game was over, not just the game at Anfield but the race to finish above them. Tottenham had imposed themselves on the game and looked the better side, I thought perhaps all this talk of them having new steel was true *until they did what they do at this time of the season.
Kyle Walker clearly wasted at right back showed his Cesc Fabregas skills by clipping a delightful through ball to Liverpool’s Stewart Downing who beat Lloris to the ball and then nutmegged the covering Tottenham defender on the goal line. Oh that was worthy of a chuckle. Not to be outdone, Jermaine Defoe clipping a lovely pass into the path of Luis Suarez who just like Bale, does not need a second invitation to go down.
So Tottenham’s long run finally halted, so has Bale’s scoring run Let us hope that it has some psychological impact as we have seen in our own garden in the past few years. I am thinking that they need to make a slip up in one of their easier looking fixtures as well as stumbling in the difficult challenges ahead. Still a lot to do in a relatively short time and that result at Anfield means very little if we do not beat Swansea in Wales.
I wish the Bayern and Swansea fixtures were the other way around. A 10 day break before playing them would have been very handy, instead we face a ridiculous up hill battle. Energy will be used where we kinda need it.
I think it makes a difference to how we prepare our football matches. I do not think it is a coincidence that we flew out of the traps against Tottenham, pressing them all over the pitch and pretty much pinning them in their half before the 36th horrid minute. With 10 days rest, we had the time to physically recover for the Bayer game, when we have midweek matches, I wonder if Arsene is managing his squad rather than not knowing why we start games in 1st gear.
I suspect that Arsene’s mantra of ‘the best preparation of a match is to win your last’ will be on show in Munich. So we will probably try and leave it all on the pitch and go for it. As stupidly hard as it is, imagine a 5th minute Walcott goal? What would be the mind set of those 22 players for that next 10 minutes? I would love an early Arsenal goal to put the cat amongst the pigeons. Wishful thinking I know but if you can’t dream in football then, well you may as well crawl back under your rock of doom on Doom Street and think doomy thoughts to yourself.
There was news that Bayern Munich wanted Arsene Wenger, and have tried to lure him in a number of times. I bet that would have appealed to Arsene. He grew up fascinated by German football during his younger years and I bet he admires everything that is going on in that league. Arsene isn’t a ship jumper and he doesn’t break contracts so he has stayed with us. Very interested to know what his next move is after 2014.
I hope he extends his deal, sue me. I hope he is able to compete financially without having to sell players to balance the books, sue me some more. I want him to buy the players he wants and not just the ones he can afford.
Don’t agree? well I think I know that already so keep your foul mouth rants in 24 Doom Street unless of course you wish to express your views without resorting to abusive rants. In that case *high five* go for it.
Oh I forgot about that other game yesterday. I chuckled at the Chelsea fans at 2-0 down singing ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ at Rafa Benitez when he made his substitutes. Chelsea then left the pitch disappointed that they didn’t win. The extra game is surely what we would have wanted as Arsenal fans, so the result was a good one.
Rafa is a bigger man than I am, he was asked about it post match and dodged the question. I’m not sure I could have avoided throwing it back in their spoilt, no history, lottery winning, no class faces.
’til the next time.
* Glass houses and all that. I know but there is no need to spoil it for me
