Gunners to kick on for 2nd half of season / Burnley Predictions

The Premier League is interesting this season, the top 4 haven’t been so top anything so far. Each team showing inconsistency on more than one occasion which makes for interesting viewing from now until the end.

Oh my word it is cold in the UK today. I am writing this with ice cold fingers and it is not nice. Good morning, ok maybe it will be afternoon by the time I put this up. Are you looking forward to the Burnley match tonight? I sure am, the kids are out tonight and will be out of their comfort zone at the Emirates. I think we may witness a different kind of game than we saw against both Sheffield United and Wigan. The Burnley boys will be in the kids faces and will probably play quite rough. It will certainly have to be a case of winning the right to play. If we can match them physically then we can do the job.

Micky Silvestre has been demoted to Carling cup action and that will add a bit of experience to the young side, it will be interesting who partners him as Song and Djourou appear to be first choice at the moment.I cannot imagine that he will want to take any risks with important first team members.

Song could well have to play his second match in a couple of days, unless Wenger chooses another youngster.

I would imagine that the unfortunate Jay Simpson will be the one to make way for Bendtner. It will be a blow for the Englishman as his two goals in the previous round should have been enough to justify his place. It appears that Arsene has a ranking system that he sticks to unless a player is out of sorts for a long period of time i.e. Kolo Toure where he will re jig his ranking.

The Premier League is interesting this season, the top 4 haven’t been so top anything so far. Each team showing inconsistency on more than one occasion which makes for interesting viewing from now until the end. One of teams should have really capitalised on the rest failure and that hasn’t happened.

It kind of gives you some hope for the rest of the season, we have the players to maintain a good run of results, yes that hasn’t happened so far and there has been many factors to explain this, or at least some way to explaining the stop start nature to our season. Hopefully as I said in the Chelsea Match Report Wenger has solved a few of those issues, this along with the return of Eduardo next month and hopefully *fingers crossed* Tomas Rosicky not far behind him, we could be in good stead for the second half of the season.

I am not blind to the frailties of the squad, Wenger may well go out in the January window and add some depth to certain areas, perhaps central midfield and perhaps a tricky speedster in the wide area. I do not like the fact that we do not have much room for error now though, We have lost 5 matches already this season so we have to make sure we do not obviously lose anymore but we also need to avoid draws that we should turn into victories. That does add up over the course of a season.

The strange things is that I haven’t given the Champions League much thought this time round, I just feel like we are playing a few midweek matches and that is how far my mind takes it. I think my brain has been taken up by the stress of the domestic competition.

We have as good a chance of winning ol big ears than anyone else, especially given the fact that we usually do not have to play against a team of spoilers, not that Aston Villa, Man City or Hull City were.

It will be interesting to see which type of teams are put out in the FA cup, I would imagine that it will be a mixture of fringe and Carling Cup players. The likes of Diaby, Eboue, Eduardo will join the Ramsey’s and Wilshere’s of the squad.

Back to tonights action, I expect to see pretty much the same side that faced Wigan apart from perhaps Simpson and Djourou will not feature.

Mean Lean’s predicted line up

Mean Lean’s predictions

Burnley 0 Arsenal 1 (Bendtner)

I am expecting a scrappy game tonight, It will be interesting to find out what Vela, Merida and co make of a freezing cold night up north. At least this team have some fight about them so hopefully they will get through any rough treatment that is likely to come their way.
