Hello transfer rumour, back so soon?

The speed of which people go through transfer rumours on twitter is quite remarkable. This morning it was Grenier and at the last time of checking we had agreed a fee for Capoue. It will almost certainly be a case of boy who cried wolf for me because when we do sign someone, I blatantly won’t believe it which I guess is better than believing every rumour. The Wayne Rooney to Arsenal rumour keeps coming back and seriously why is this happening? It makes so little sense. Are the tabloids taking the micky here? Firstly, assuming that we are not going to match the wages he gets at Manchester United, why exactly would Rooney leave Manchester United to earn less money, remember Rooney is a footballer. Also, why would Arsene break our transfer record to buy a player who is

I must say, I didn’t expect to miss the Arsenal so quickly after being pretty relieved that it was all over at the final whistle at St James’ Park. Rather than football we instead have transfer rumour which seems to have a larger appeal to so many. As 7am Kick off and Arseblog have pointed out, blog traffic goes through the roof when it comes to transfer rumour rather than a match review for example. It is a little crazy to be honest but in some ways I do understand why.

A transfer brings something new and new is exciting. New players make supporters dream about an improved team. As I said, I fully understand it, in fact I love a good transfer but what I detest is not transfers but transfer rumour, especially when they are so obviously fabricated.

We should all be used to this with agents pulling our name into the hat to drum up interest in their players, maybe it is because I follow Arsenal more than anyone else but it always seems as if we are the team that get drawn into transfer nonsense to gain a player a bigger contract at their current club, or perhaps force another club to make a move when it fact we were never interested in buying said player in the first place.

At this time of the year the sports media outlets need to produce some form of content so producing a headline on newsnow that ‘Cavani interests Wenger’ is sure to generate a stupid amount of hits for something that is essentially made up. You get a rather crazy situation where you have Gooners on social media and blogs speculating about what player they would rather have out of a) Made up Daily Star story or b) made up Daily Mirror story.

And this is where the issue lies for Gooners who like me, are excited at the prospect of an already strong squad being strengthened by a few top players, but have to filter out the daily load of nonsense that gets thrown at us.

It is the 26th May and already we have been linked with..

Begovic

Kondogbia Williams Capoue

Cesc Gonalons Grenier

Jovetic Higuain Rooney

Benteke

Ok, the team is somewhat attack heavy but hey you catch my drift. The transfer window is yet to even open and the stories are flooding in. I am sure I have missed loads so you can add some more in the comments below if you like. You imagine that we will be having an increase in stories also due to Ivan and Arsene being caught on camera phone rolling around in a bath tub filled with £50 notes with stacks of Puma gear on the bathroom floor next to the Emirates towels.

Firstly, assuming that we are not going to match the wages he gets at Manchester United, why exactly would Rooney leave Manchester United to earn less money, remember Rooney is a footballer. Also, why would Arsene break our transfer record to buy a player who is declining?, especially physically.

If Rooney was 23 with the mentality of someone like Cristiano Ronaldo who is obsessive with his physical condition then you’d have my ear but you don’t. Oh and I forgot to mention, this is Wayne Rooney you’re talking about.

Lukas Podolski has rejected the idea that he is seeking a move away, it will really be interesting to see how he is deployed next season. Gervinho has been linked with a move back to France and I am sure there are plenty other stories that I cannot be bothered to talk about.

I don’t think I will be blogging a great deal during the summer unless something concrete turns up knocking at the internet door. I remember last season getting rather bored with writing about a made up story in a newspaper, so I may have to steer clear, that being said, I sometimes cannot help myself.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

’till the next time.
