Hleb should attack the box more

I grew up supporting Arsenal in the George Graham era and it was what I was used to

I now know what it is like for most teams who face Arsenal these days. I played 9 aside last night and our team were passed to death with one touch quick football.

Sometimes as Arsenal fans we have to truly appreciate what we are seeing week in week out *cliche alert* on the pitch, not only are we the most attractive side in England but we are up there in the world as one of the teams that play football the right way. I very much doubt that Brazil play a more attractive game than us and every single bit of credit must go to Arsene Wenger. Imagine if we didn’t take that risk in bringing in this little known Frenchman.

I grew up supporting Arsenal in the George Graham era and it was what I was used to and I appreciate the terrific job that Graham did, making us tough and solid then added goal machine Ian Wright along with the flair of Merson and Limpar but what we see today is something completely different. We seriously couldn’t have made a better choice than Wenger at that time.

So what relevance has this got with today’s bog? The truth is nothing whatsoever. Infact there is nothing much to talk about Arsenal related this afternoon. It is a little early to be talking about the Aston Villa match even though I did mention a few things yesterday.

I was thinking about the contribution of Cristano Ronaldo for Manchester United and what he brings to the Manchester United team that we currently do not and it is not even his goal ratio which obviously is very important but it is the fact that he carrys the ball so well and it attracts players to him which therefore gives more space to other players. In our squad the player who can do this to a similar effect is Alex Hleb, especially now that he is playing on the left wing. He twists and turns in deeper positions and links up the play but sometimes I would like to see him attack the box with the ball at his feet and take out two players in one run. It is easier to defend in numbers against short passing but it is alot harder to defend against short passing and dribbling.

It is nice to see Chelsea dismantle themselves from the inside. All of a sudden Avram Grant looks like a manager under pressure. It is quite amazing really, it wasn’t long ago that I was hearing that he had a record equal to Jose Mouriniho.

The Flamini rumours continue to go around and now the press are indicating that he may not sign a new deal. The telegraph even mention that he may have even accepted an offer from Juventus.

I think it is all rubbish to be honest. Flamini is now enjoying the best football of his career. He has good friends in Cesc, Hleb and is current sat top of the league in England. We may have to budge from our current offer but at the end of the day we want him to stay and the player is happy so it should be sorted at some point one way or another…. if he doesn’t then we are stuffed!

Thats it for today, lets hope for some positive and exciting news tomorrow

Until tomorrow.
