Injuries & Why Robin should remain a Gunner

Cast your mind back to the invincibles, a team packed with quality, guile and steel. A team that went the entire league season without losing a single game. Well we wouldn’t actually have an invincible side to speak of if that squad had anywhere near our injury record to contend with

Another late article today, my plan of producing morning stuff hasn’t worked thus far. I shall see how that goes in the near future.

As some will already know, I have been known to have a good old fashioned moan about injuries. I like to think that I try and avoid it, I don’t want to be seen as making excuses and all that, which is a popular argument against my rants.

Rumours are doing their usual rounds about Theo Walcott being out for six weeks instead of the earlier two that was reported after the England game.

I am not sure where these six weeks have come from? It is certainly not coming out from Arsenal, so I shall hold fire until I hear an official announcement.

It is just frustrating that we are all back here again, talking about the very same issues.

Some people complain about a lack of spending, some complain about a lack of defensive organisation and others will complain about the foreign players in our squad. By far the most irritating part of being an Arsenal supporter is the amount of injuries that we seem to have.

If we had a full compliment of players to choose from, more often than not and we were beaten fair and square then I could handle that. What I cannot handle is our team being written off time and time again when we hardly have the chance to see the best of what we have.

Cast your mind back to the invincibles, a team packed with quality, guile and steel. A team that went the entire league season without losing a single game. Well we wouldn’t actually have an invincible side to speak of if that squad had anywhere near our injury record to contend with.

You could name Arsene’s first team almost every game and if a player did get injured then he was out for a game or two then *blam* back in the squad again.

Think back to when Thierry Henry was moved into the central striker role and he struggled to score goals until he finally got the hang of it, confidence came and he improved every year. Henry in his early days until his prime was super fit, played every week. Premier league, champions league and FA Cup without fail Henry was there.

The same could have been said for pretty much everyone else, those players could learn from each other, could develop an understanding with their team mates.

Theo Walcott is looking red hot right now, scoring goals and feeling the glow of self belief and then a moment later he is back on the sidelines again.

Many think that the best thing is to offload the likes of Van Persie and Rosicky and replace those players with players with better injury records. I don’t think for one moment that it is as simple and straight forward as that.

Players like Van Persie are senior figures in the Arsenal dressing room. They are not simply assets, they are people who have grown together, developed together and it is these players who are Arsenal. We could easily bring in another player to replace Van Persie in January for that player to get Shawcrossed or even Taylored.

Like I have said before, I do not expect Arsenal to go the whole season without picking up injuries. Every club gets injuries. Some more than others. But I wouldn’t mind Arsenal having just the average amount of problems to deal with.

All Wenger can do is stick by his players and hope that our ‘bad luck’ improves.

I am looking forward to the Bolton game coming up, a return to proper football and all that. Even with the likes of Van Persie, Bendtner and Walcott all missing from the squad, we still have some very good options. Options that many other clubs would love to have.

Samir Nasri could well be back in the squad but I expect the Frenchman to take a place on the bench at the very most. Denilson is back in the squad after coming through the reserve game against Blackburn in midweek. Denilson believes that we should treat Bolton like we would Chelsea or Manchester United.

We should indeed treat every team that we play with respect. Complacency is certainly an unwanted visitor who has showed his ugly face in the past. Hopefully the maturity in the squad will prevent the door being left open to Mr complacency.

Oh before I go, I have just seen a headline on newsnow about Arsenal closing in on a £16 million teenage superstar. I am off to print that out and read it over and over again until January.

I am now off to cry to the injury gods and beg for forgiveness.
