Since the Brazilian came to Arsenal on trial, he has had nothing but hype from fans, bloggers and even the coaching staff from what I have read. It is not hard to understand why he has had so much attention. He is a crowd pleaser, a dribbler. One of those players who make you get up from your seat.
Afternoon Gooners,
It has been a few days since I last jotted down any thoughts. This was due to yet another laptop charger giving up on life and passing away. Now my laptop cannot function which has meant that writing on AV has been very difficult. I am at home today on my desktop so it has been possible today. I am on a mission to buy a charger that doesn’t break after a few weeks of use.
I didn’t watch the England game last night, I was playing myself. I played for the opposition team as they were short in numbers and it seems as if they think that the object of the game was to dribble as long as possible before being tackled. Anyway, I flicked my phone on after it all finished and saw the headlines about Walcott being stretchered off.
I was very concerned first of all but calmed down a little when I heard that it wasn’t serious. But serious or not, it still could put the brakes on Theo who was in his best run of form since joining us as a fresh faced teenager. He has to recover from the ankle problem and then find his rhythm again. It is so unfortunate for Theo as I am sure all he would like to do is continue playing. There is never a better time to play football than when you are full of self belief. Well hopefully this is an isolated problem for Theo Walcott, hopefully it will not be a lingering issue.
It has all become a little deja vu like with Robin Van Persie being ruled out longer than the original estimated time. Van Persie is now set to return in October. That in itself isn’t such a long time and I am sure the squad can cope with his absence, especially with Chamakh taking to Arsenal like a duck to water and Bendtner on the road to recovery. The issue is that our star striker has already broken down in such a short space of time from the beginning of the season until now, especially after an injury free world cup.
I must admit, I was a little uncomfortable seeing him play at Anfield with his leg strapped up. Even if it means Robin missing the first few months. We want Van Persie physically as strong as possible and more importantly, lasting as long as possible.
Hopefully he can get that chance to recuperate until mid October and then he can remain clear of injuries for a long enough period to gain form, fitness and make a real positive impact on our season.
Swinging into a more positive tone, Jack the boy Wilshere came off the bench for Stuart Pearce’s England under 21s and made a real impact, playing a part in some of the goals scored in the second half. With a few injuries in our squad, Wilshere could continue to get minutes in our first team so we need him to remain on top of his game. If Wilshere can keep his head down and show the same temperament as Ramsey has then we could witness a very good player after January. Not that he isn’t already, but when Ramsey first came in he was making errors, misplacing passes and making bad decisions. With hard work and games he improved and that is usually the case for all players, especially younger players. The same is happening to Wilshere and he will have plenty more to give.
Speaking of youngsters, the new boy, or erm.. almost new boy Wellington Silva has been speaking positively about joining Arsenal.
Silva said:
“The experience in London was perfect, I can now dream of playing in the Premier League and I don’t think it will be hard for me to adapt.
“Mr Wenger has spoken with me and has helped me with my work and training. I am really looking forward to this challenge. It’s a great opportunity for me in my career.”

At only 17 years old he has plenty of growing and maturing to do before he will be considered as a first team player. Listening to his interviews, he sounds like a very grounded and humble kid and that is just the type of person Arsene likes to have in his squad. You can never tell but I do not imagine Mr Silva looking for prostitutes in the early hours.
Finally the reserve team played last night, the team included new boy Sebastien Squillaci who partnered Johan Djourou in defence. We conceded three at home so he must be rubbish, ship him out asap, rant, rave and all the rest of it.
Jokes aside, we won 4-3 and it is good to have those first team players including Denilson coming back to full fitness. Emmanuel-Thomas, Benik Afobe and Chuks Aneke impressed yet again and are all close to pushing themselves into the same bracket as Wilshere.
Ok, that is just about that for now.
Back tomorrow (I hope)
