Less than 4 weeks into the new season and injuries have started creeping in. Sometimes I feel we are the unluckiest club in the world. A lot of talk has been said about our training regime, the Emirates pitch and our medical team though I refuse to believe those tales.

In the past few seasons injuries have been our undoing. The rate at which they come is sickening. We definitely can cope with one or two key players being out for a couple of weeks but not three or four or five players being out at the same time. At some point last season the core of our team were ruled out for extended periods.

Depth they say is the key to every title winning team which I won’t dispute but still there is a point at which you can go even with the so called “depth” when your most influential players are sitting out games.

Last season at some point we were without the likes of Vermaelen, Cesc, Nasri and RVP. That’s basically the core of our team excluding the Goal-keeper. Remove the likes of Vidic, Fletcher, Nani and Rooney for extended periods and tell me if they would have gone on to win the league.

I’m not trying to make a case for our failings because to be honest I’m actually sick of it and being almost there season after season isn’t good enough.

The new season has just begun, we are yet to see Jack Wilshere and Diaby play. Few days ago it was confirmed that Jack would be out for 2 – 3 months. Jack was outstanding last season and to be without him for 12weeks is damn too long. He is a natural born fighter who would surely help our course as we fight for the title or a top 4 finish.

Diaby on the other hand doesn’t have any apparent time frame set for his return. I know he isn’t everybody’s favourite but still he is a very good player. I’m a huge fan of his and with a consistent run in the side I’m very positive that we would see the best of him.

My biggest concern right now is the unavailability of Thomas Vermaelen. It was confirmed on Tuesday he would be out for at least 4 weeks. After watching him play against Newcastle, Liverpool and Udinese(home and away) I saw what we missed out on last season. He is a leader, he would put his head or leg were most would shy away from. He reads the game brilliantly and he is very calm under pressure.

We have got a capable cover in Mertesacker and Koscielny pending Vermaelen’s return but injury to one of  them, then the fretting would start. Djourou as we all know blows hot and cold. He can be class this week and the next week be diabolical. In other words the jury is still out on him.

We play Swansea on Saturday and we would be without;

Song (suspension)
Gervinho (suspension)
Diaby
Squillaci
Wilshere
Vermaelen

Even with those 6 being out we have a very good team to come out with all 3 points. Deadline day dealings surely beefed up our squad and boy am I glad we succeeded in bringing new faces into the team.

Saturday had better come fast…. I’m hungry for football, hungry for Arsenal!!!
