What this will do is cause the anti Wenger mob to bite their tongue for a little while. I keep reading from certain fans that Wenger is not a business man he is a manager and should not worry about spending money as much as he does
Strange goings on at Arsenal this morning, Peter Hill-wood publicly saying that Toure should honour his contract and now claiming that Arsenal do not have much money spend this window.
Over the last 12 months or so, we have continuously heard from directors and the chairman that we are in very good financial shape and it would not be a problem if Arsene came to the board and asked for a large amount of cash to spend on his squad.
I’ll come to the Toure situation in a second but this shortage of cash comment from PHW can be taken in two ways.
1) We are currently haggling over prices with a few (or one) target and coming out publicly stating that we are skint can only work in our favour.
2) Due to the financial crisis the board have decided to pull those purse strings that little tighter and now Arsene is suffering because of that.
“I don’t think there is a lot of money anywhere,” Hill-Wood said in the Daily Star. “One has got to look ahead – in the future there is probably not going to be much more money coming in.
“We have got money, but I am not sure we are going to spend it. We’ve got to continue to run the business in a sensible way.
“It may sound boring, but we are not going to rush out and spend fortunes on people who won’t help us achieve anything better than where we are at the moment.
“Arsene has a lot of young, talented players at the club and I think he will probably give a chance to one or two of them.”

It could well mean that Arsene may have to do a little bit of wheeling and dealing. To be honest it is usually always how he goes about transfers.
Which brings me to the Toure situation. We know that Toure wants to quit the club and Wenger on the whole does not like to keep players who do not want to be there (Diarra springs to mind)
Hill-Wood’s comments are surprisingly very public, especially when it comes to the players. Maybe this is something that was supposed to be in the public eye. If Arsenal accept Toure’s transfer request then it gives Manchester City the green light to lower his valuation.
Manchester City are as you know flushed with cash and any selling club would want to raise the price as high as possible, this maybe the plan. It Kolo does leave Arsenal *sniff sniff* then it would mean that Arsene would almost certainly have to dip back into the market and find a replacement. We certainly do not have any internal replacements who are ready enough to play in such an important position.
It sure has been a steep decline for Toure this season and I would hate to see him part the club. I still think Kolo Toure could do a good job for us in the position that Alex Song currently takes up. He could be our very own Michael Essien, perhaps not exactly but he could add some steel to our midfield.
Where does this leave William Gallas? I cannot imagine that he would also be allowed to leave but how far ahead can you see him plying his trade at Arsenal? Not only that but how much does he have left in the tank?
I wish I could get on the phone to Arsene and find out what he is doing here because it is hurting my head.
There were rumours from other sites that Arshavin’s agent claimed that his client was waiting for confirmation about a deal that would take him to Arsenal. I still feel pretty skeptical about it to be honest, it sounded remarkably like his recent comments that could have easily been mistranslated.
If Arshavin was 24 years old then I would be much more positive about the potential of getting him. I am sure that Arsene likes him because as I keep on saying, he is a classic Arsene Wenger player. I just think that Arsene would have liked to have found him earlier in his career.
It doesn’t matter because Wenger is about to break his contract and join Real Madrid, yeah right.
Thats it for now, if I hear anything new I shall write in the comments section. Back tomorrow (probably)
