It could be right time to play new Celtic / Rosicky / Merida

You know what is almost bothering me the most? We didn’t get to see the Arshavin, Cesc, Rosicky and Eduardo combination. The combination that I have been dreaming about

So Celtic it is, wasn’t it always going to be? I still think these draws are not exactly draws but that is for another day. It sure is am interesting match up, I must admit that I used to have a little soft spot for the green and white hoops. Back in the George Graham days we played out a 3-3 draw in a testimonial (can’t for the life of me remember who it was now) match which I enjoyed immensely.

This Celtic team will be a little unknown to most as we have been used to watching the Gordon Strachan version over the last few years. Tony Mowbray will I guess be attempting to get his side playing football the proper way (hats off to you Tone) so it could be a good time to play them as they adjust to management and style of football.

They have a good European record at Celtic Park and we should respect them but looking at it black and white, our squad even with injuries should be head and shoulders above theirs. They have signed a striker who was playing for West Brom last season who was playing alongside our reserve/youth forward who cannot find a place into our first team. Without wanting to curse us, we are stronger than them but we know football isn’t as simple as that. If it was then Hull City would have been thrashed at the Emirates and Stoke City would have crawled back into their changing rooms after a good ol fashioned mauling.

So now to the bad news, which I wish I did first. It is always better to cry first and smile afterwards *sniff*

It has been confirmed that Tomas Rosicky will be out of action for six weeks with a hamstring injury which is proper depressing. It is not the end of the world but it is still depressing. He was looking sharp and committed.

You know what is almost bothering me the most? We didn’t get to see the Arshavin, Cesc, Rosicky and Eduardo combination. The combination that I have been dreaming about. I am not so sure that it will actually be six weeks, I think setting the comeback date further ahead is something our manager tends to do. With the season next week, hopefully we will see him on his way to recovery in 3-4 weeks along with Samir Nasri.

So where does this leave our squad? Still pretty healthy in the creative areas unless the injuries continue. I do not quite understand the point of Merida leaving on loan. After his pre season performances I am very surprised why he is being sent away unless he doesn’t want to be here which I very much doubt.

Jack Wilshere could be shifted up in the pecking order for a creative forward role but even with Nasri and Rosicky out you would still expect Eboue, Diaby and Walcott to be ahead of him for the short term.

Arsene Wenger has compared Jack to a young Wayne Rooney.

Wenger said:

“Jack reminds me of Rooney when he started, in his belief and his positive attitude.

“He has a lot to learn, regarding relations with others, but there are great basics. You do not want a guy to be a star before he has delivered and maybe here that is more difficult than anywhere else.”

I thought the same thing last season. Rooney was more powerful and explosive at 16/17 but I believe that Jack has more natural ability but we will see in the next few years if that is an accurate assumption.

Transfer speccy time. Wenger has admitted that he has had a look at Fulham’s Brede Hangeland which is a surprise to me I must say.

Wenger said:

“We have had a look at him, yes, We have not contacted Fulham, not contacted Hangeland, not made our choice on him or anybody else.”

Playing for an English club you can expect a tasty price tag attached to a player who has done well since moving to England. At the age of 28 or so he doesn’t stick out as a typical Arsene signing, especially after signing Tomas Vermaelen for £10-13 million, that is not to say that we couldn’t do with added numbers in that area. We have already seen two injuries in one position even before the season starts.

It looks as if hats will not be on my menu as Wenger takes a step back from the Vieira return rumours which I expected. I think it could well be a good move, add some experience and leadership to a young squad, having said that I would not expect him to play many games.

Right, that’s my lot.

Till tomorrow.
