Arsene Wenger and his coaching staff have been watching Koscielny for many many games, they know his strengths, they know what he will need to improve on and they know what he can and will bring to Arsenal Football Club
I stumble to my laptop feeling a little weary today. Feeling rather tired and suffering from a neck pain following an unsuccessful attempt of a full nights sleep.
Oh well, never mind such is life.
It looks like transfer movement is imminent at AFC. It could be one in and one out as Sol Campbell is currently talking to Neil Lennon and Celtic whilst Laurent Koscielny appears to be very close to joining after the two clubs have reportedly agreed a fee for the left footed central defender.
I assume that it is now a case of dotting i’s and crossing t’s as well as the medical. The reaction from many Arsenal fans doesn’t seem to be very positive about Koscielny’s probable arrival, mainly because he isn’t a household name. It is incredible how a player can be written off before he has stepped foot into north London.
Arsene Wenger and his coaching staff have been watching Koscielny for many many games, they know his strengths, they know what he will need to improve on and they know what he can and will bring to Arsenal Football Club. I am willing to bet that at least 90% of those kicking and screaming about Koscielny would have never watched him play a full 90 minutes, let alone followed him over the course of a season, noting down the ground he has covered, his percentage of tackles won, his character on the pitch.
Before we make a judgement on a player, I suggest that we wait and see how he fits in and how he partners up with the likes of Tomas Vermaelen and Johan Djourou.
Unless Arsene is to promote someone from the reserves then you would expect another central defender to be brought in if Sol and Gallas do decide to jump ship.
Spain overcame a lacklustre Portugal 1-0 last night. I expected a far more open game but Ronaldo and co disappointed big time. Cesc didn’t even mange to get on the pitch. I wonder how Cesc is feeling about this experience right now. He cannot be very happy about this 2010 world cup so far. I wonder how many ‘if need to be playing in Spain to get more playing time’ he has heard since the tournament started or perhaps that is just me.
This is Cesc Fabregas after all and not Michael Carrick. He should be able to get pitch time for any team in world football even if Spain are a very talented side.
The Dutch will be facing Brazil in what seems like a mouthwatering clash. Holland have so much more to offer and seem like they are doing as little as possible to win each game. I am still waiting for them to explode, perhaps a big game like this could get the best out the players. Robin Van Persie was not happy about being withdrawn in their game against Slovakia.
Van Persie said:
“What I said to Van Marwijk was not over the top, I just want to be important to the team and score. I wanted to stay on as we would have had more space with Slovakia chasing an equaliser, and I felt that I could profit from that.
“I have hardly scored and that was gnawing at me, although I played well.”
Hopefully he will start to find the net more often and then bring his goals back with him to Arsenal for the new season.
Back tomorrow.
