If Carlsberg provided Saturday results, then they’d probably be the best Saturday results in the world, well thank you Carlsberg, you must have been involved somewhere. Chelsea drew at home to Everton which means they have now not won a game in their last four games whilst conceding 10 goals. Difficult to know how that has happened as they are supposed to be this invincible machine who will steam roll every team that crosses their path.

Manchester United defeated by an early Agbonlahor goal after only six minutes yet they were not able to turn it around. I was waiting expecting the double strike in the 97th minute but it never came. Manchester City crashed back to earth with a 3-3 draw against Bolton and Tottenham we just laugh at because we cannot class them as rivals.

Wenger, like myself must have been grinning from ear to ear but the full laugh will have to wait, the small matter of Liverpool and Anfield stand in our way. Away victories at Anfield do not come along very often in recent years, well league victories don’t and if I am being perfectly honest, we should have been beaten last year in an incredible 4-4 draw even if we should have won the game with barely a minute left on the clock.

Another productive day in front of the Liverpool goal would be fantastic, Arshavin had a very quiet day but when faced with the two white posts and a man standing in the middle of it, he was lethal, if Arshavin gets the nod from the boss to continue in the central attacking role then any similar performance would be ideal from the explosive Russian. The defensive side of our game will want absolutely nothing to do with last season’s performance. Thomas Vermaelen’s introduction to the English game hasn’t quite finished as the Belgium international has yet to test himself against the one who some regard as the best striker in Europe.

Torres hasn’t played for a few weeks due to another injury that is currently shoving the front man into the injury prone bracket and this could be a good thing for the Arsenal back four. Torres has been rushed back to face us in the past and has looked rusty, I must admit I am praying for more of the same.

The game could be won and lost in the midfield this afternoon which is normal in these big games. Both teams should adopt a pretty conservative midfield with Mascherano and either Lucas or perhaps Aquilani playing in front of the back four to provide a platform for Gerrard to support his striker. Denilson and Song are likely to do the same, which will hopefully allow Cesc to get into positions to slip balls through to Arshavin who will be looking to make good runs off the Liverpool back four.

Abou Diaby is back in the squad and Arsene may be tempted to use his powerful Frenchman to add more power to his side, I do not see Denilson being the player to drop out but I am weary of Diaby coming back in a wide attacking position which can sometimes upset the attacking balance of the side.

Wenger’s team today will mainly choose itself, mostly down to the long injury list that we have at present but the manager will still have some attacking decisions to make. Will Arshavin continue to lead the line? Who will take up the attacking wide berth on the opposite end of the pitch as Samir Nasri who is likely to continue in the side. I think Wenger would have played with Emmanuel Eboue on the right with Nasri on the left but the Ivorian will not make the trip up north after limping off the pitch against Stoke last weekend.

Theo Walcott will also be an option for Wenger even if his form isn’t the very best right now, his pace will always make the opposition manager adjust their game plan based on the danger of our right winger. My worry would be his ball retention and his defensive cover on his side of the pitch.

Mean Lean’s Predicted Line Up

If Wenger feels that Diaby is ready to play then I have a feeling that he will be brought in on the left to add power if not then we could see Theo start on the right.

Mean Lean’s Match Prediction

Liverpool 0 Arsenal 1 (Arshavin)

The team need a strong performance and Wenger will be aware of that after the Chelsea game. Hopefully the players can give their all and win the game.
